I feel like this is something that gets asked a lot here, and I didn't find anything in the sticky

How do you guys prevent tendinitis ?

I've been drawing a lot these days and my wrist is starting to hurt a little

Yeah thanks I'm doing that.
A friend said that I should stay hydrated as well

Strength training is the single most important excercise you can do to prevent overuse injuries, and also for general health. Start lifting or do calistenichs.

>Draw with elbow/shoulder, make your grip as light as possible.
>Use the mouse with your non-dominant hand.
>Get up and walk every 30 minutes.

Because of this I never have pain anymore.

i have carpal tunnel. from what i understand there is no real cure, just treatments. it is chronic and will only get worse. take frequent breaks and symptoms should subside, if things get really bad you could get surgery

as a rule of thumb, is somebody complains of joint pains in the legs they are fat, if of joint pains in the arms they are skinny

try to draw from your shoulder, not from your wrist.

exercise arm and wrist seperately from drawing. meaning dont exercise them and then draw before or after on a short notice. when drawing in long sessions make sure you just flex and move around your fingers and arms, but dont exercise them.

Increasing the pressure sensitivity on my tablet helped immensely for me. It’s also helping me save my last nib and the surface of my Bamboo from getting completely ground up. There’s no reason to have the pressure sensitivity so low unless you’re used to making indents with your tools.

My setup to prevent pain:
>Drafting table to prevent tendinitis in elbow (epicondylitis). Also a brace to apply pressure and reduce blood flow as a preventative.
>Quality chair with lumbar support and the ability to tip forward to keep upright and prevent back problems.
>Screenless tablet and monitor at eye level to prevent neck strain.
>Ergo grip on my tablet pen to prevent finger strain

Take regular breaks, stand up and walk around, do stretches. You can also apply ice to reduce inflammation. I also have been avoiding inking lately and instead refining sketches, which makes a world of difference.

Don't grip your drawing implement with your full retard strength? Don't draw for retardedly long amounts of time in one sitting? Don't be a fatfuck and keep your body healthy? This shouldn't be a concern, I don't understand how you autists could possibly manage to harm your hands/tendons drawing.

when you first start drawing your wrist or hand will always hurt a bit because you body has to adjust. do get into good habits though, but don't be too alarmed either.

Use leverage grip instead of applying pressure on a single section of the drawing tool like a special child, as was pointed out already

Be strong, at least do the wrist roller curl.

Do strokes from the shoulder more than anything.

If in pain take breaks and pace yourself I guess. Do the above until you stop getting pains, then you can go back to steady practice.

I agree with all the points except this one. Some people have deadlines to hit and there's not enough fucking hours in a day.

I don't believe the vast majority of /ic/ is in a position where they have serious deadlines to meet. I considered adding that point to my post as an exception, but thought it didn't really apply here.

Why would you assume such a thing?

Because the vast majority of this board are autists and/or NEETS that don't currently have intensive art careers.

Use the overhand grip, not the grip you use when writing letters.
