Why is everyone still so obsessed with this crap? All of it looks the same and it doesnt look appealing one bit, pic related does not look like humans, its just random shapes like its done by a 5 year old. They honestly look like cartoon ants like the ones from bugs life, why does everyone here want to draw ants?

And why would you want realism in a cartoon? I would just take a photo with my phone. Because my phone's camera can do a better job than you.

I would seriously like for you to post your work. Because I want to show you why anime/manga style is so appealing, when contrasted against your sloppy pseudo-realism. Or are you wanting more western-style cartoon? I don't blame you, but in that case you are a hypocrite because they too lack realistic forms in exchange for simple cartoon forms.

What "random shapes" do you see in that image? Anime is pushing shapes far less than western cartoons does, so the bodies are usually fairly normal looking humans and all the stylization and exaggeration is happening in the face.

In that particular image, it's a fun, energetic pose with 2 characters interacting with each other, nice, simple anatomy, has a story, it shows decent enough perspective, very clean linework and good believability in the cloth design. This is why people find it appealing. The opposite what you see so many western beginner artists like you draw. Lifeless pose, no story, single character, zero perspective, messy linework, made up clothes without real life references

The fact that you already have to go to fucking Disney feature films to compare to some throwaway japanese tv animation says all that needs to be said. Theres plenty of shows with good animation and design, most just aren't focused on humans.

But the thing about anime is that it usually is an actual story to be portrayed in a limited time. This has a different philosophy behind the design than kid shows aimed at kids in an episodic nature.
Something like my little pony isnt supposed to be a fantastic fantasy story, it's a brain dead show for children to watch. You compare it to things like precure or one piece or pokemon, anime with horrible animation and design (precure an exception).

There is just as much design skill in creating ponies as there is generic moe girl #37. But being aimed at kids the ponies work better than humans. Disney, being aimed at a larger audience prefers to use humans. Anime is often aimed at older males who buy all the merch and aren't going to care about a sentient sponge.

your examples make very little sense. Pokemon and One Piece have absolutely incredible design for what they intend to do and the results speak for themselves. MLP might have a tiny percentage of very small children who are into it, but the majority of its fanbase is a fringe group of neckbeards. One Piece and Pokemon on the other hand are massive worldwide phenomenons. 2 of THE most successful children IPs ever made.

I'm probably in the minority on this, but I hate their current artstyle with burning passion. The rendering is superb, designs and locations are wonderfully made, but the pretty girls who inhabit them look like identical soulless ghouls. The faces remind me of misshapen plastic dolls. The way the eyelashes look like solid strips is disgusting.
The balance between cartoon and realism is done so much better with their male characters.
