3511939 No.3511939 [Reply] [Original]

Just got contacted by this dude who wants me to make character art for a cardgame. He just saw my blog and liked my stuff.

How much should I charge him? What do you recommend?

I don't think I'll have to design the characters. He just wants me to take the designs and pose them in three different ways. Two bust shots, one angry, one happy, and then a full body shot.

Full color x 8 characters.

I was thinking around $300USD a character sheet. Sound reasonable?

The digits have spoken. $300 it is then. Thank you kind anon.

Also, so this thread gets put to good use. Someone once posted an image or a link to a blog that talked about how to price different creative work. If someone could repost it, that'd be awesome!

Is that your drawing? No, $300 sounds absolutely insane.

You'll scare the customer away with such silly pricing, be realistic and charge 60$ per piece.

this, but unironically

>> No.3512193

300 USD is alright for private clients. I recently charged 700 USD for a pinup illustration but that's almost the upper end for private stuff. Once you get studios trying to hire you, charge more. How much depends on the studio's budget but double the amount is fairly average.

But it's not just a piece, but several drawings per character, if I understood OP. Probably for a dating VN.

The reason I asked was because I've never done art for card games before, and they generally have a smaller budget. I regularly do work for videogames, where the rate is roughly the same as what I posted in the OP.

I told the guy I had my hands full with a couple other projects, one of which is paying me $10k for 8 character designs and some promotional art. So really, I don't think I'd do it for less than $300 a page the more I think about it.

I already gave the guy the quote, haven't heard back from him, probably won't. But like I said, I'm already busy, so if it's not worth my time in money it's not worth doing.

That's irrelevant to what I wrote. Art is a dream job while working a generic minimum wage job is "shall I kill myself instead of going to work?" tier. Anyone decent would take such a job even for a large pay cut instead of doing a shitty job for more money.

Already gave him my rate btw, he replied back, said he's interested, and that he's waiting to hear back from other artists as well.

So we'll see I suppose. Either way, I'm not stressing. Already got all my bills covered with this vidya gig, so anything more is just extra really.

The only instance where you should undercharge is if you are starving or are being kicked out of your house for not paying the rent and NEED it ASAP.
