If I just doodle every day without following any kind of guide or learn to draw book, will I eventually get better? Is it that simple? Or is there a limit to self-leaning which can only be overcome with textbook learning?

you don't need a guide or book to get better but no, doodling will not give you noticeable gains.

Just draw to be quite honest family

no

Beyond the basic fundamentals probably, but just doodling random shapes is useless. Draw from life

You will get better at doodling, not drawing in general. That's how it works.

who knows? nobody has ever tried it, because reading is 10000x easier than working

are there people so autistic as to keep repeating the same mistakes hundreds of times, without trying to improve in the least?

the only way to learn is by copying. doodling from your mind wont teach you anything except better pen control

if you think copying from references is a bad way to learn youre definitely NGMI

Yeah sure. If you doodle eventually you won't feel satisfied with simple drawings and you'll start conciously developing. That's how every schoolkid starts.

Though you can get better faster through applied technique, just drawing is better than 90% of people.
