What are your thoughts on DeviantART as an art site?

Where young artist go to die and never improve because of the hugboxy atmosphere

>> No.3500392

It's the same as the other social networks, the market is so oversaturated that you hardly get notice in any place.

>> No.3500572

There are a lot of pros who host their work on there.
I've noticed it could be optimized more for art.
I think the search algorithm on it could be better.
It could do with some of the features that non-art websites have, for people working on actual projects.

I like their organization options. It's just missing the comic function like with Pixiv.

>Post on DA for 6 years, though most of my stuff doesnt smack as artistic it gets a lot of views and downloads
>Never once been on the front page
>Robin Williams dies
>1 hour and 12 minutes after the news of his death someone posts a monochrome photo of him with the years of his birth and death with a pink love heart.
>It's instantly front page.
>Get mad, click the image, the picture isnt any bigger than the thumbnail for it.

DA kinda blows, at least it allows full uncompressed images.

Gets too much hate. It's a place where artists of all skills congregate, so Sturgeon's Law applies.

I do still hate how they fucked up visibility for lesser-known artists.

I think it can be good for networking for money and shilling your art for commissions. Being able to network and act like you like other artists there will eventually create a fan base if you are nice and have good art. You don't even need to have good art, you can draw Tumblr art and make lots of commissions if you're nice to people.

A site for very horny dweebs, but actually one of the most harmless sites around.
I used to get lots of views in my old account, but a lot of people started moving away to other sites.

I wonder how many people have fallen into the pit that is anti-aliased lines in MSPaint.

It's got to be about as common as someone forgetting they're holding a wrapped chocolate bar, and then trying to eat the melted mess out of the wrapper.

>> No.3502752

Still has potential breathing left in it.
Admins need to make sure the next update getting released soon actually holds up in merit and doesn't land the final nail for its coffin.

Its an endearing site with a lot of crazy people but it was great at its prime when the staff used to tour around the world.

No one even talks to me let alone say my shitty art is great. At best someone wants to use my character in some shitty comic type thing for their contest or something

it ACTUALLY was a good site at one point in time. Believe it or not. If you were developed your art style and had a profile around early 2000 thats probably why you are employed in the art industry.

>> No.3504645

worse than artstation and pixiv by a long shot, shockingly awful UI for an art centric site, with a reputation for autistic fetish art.
would never touch it desu
