> How long you've been doing art, and perhaps some history about your art life

Myself:
Started drawing for about a year ago, but started learning and studying a month ago. Pic related was made around two weeks ago though, mostly been doing studies and not actual pieces.

Keep at it OP, you'll get better and only 1 month in is way to early for anyone to tell you to give up.

Do some construction, draw what you see and use implied lines and lines of varying thickness

Did this for a local art exhibit. That same day I submitted, the exhibit was shot up by a bunch of gangs lol

Been drawing since I was 6. Took a few classes when I was younger, but nothing serious. Everything has essentially been improvements through repetition and copying drawings/comics I liked.

I'm now deep in accounting and I hate it. My recent promotion at work allows some extra free time for me, so I try to draw whatever I can. I wish I could go back and seriously pursue art, but drawing cool shit won't pay my debts off. Thanks, capitalism!

Been "doodling" since I was younger
Never really took drawing seriously until about 5 months ago towards the end of military work when downtime was low and whipping out a pencil and paper gave me distractions.
This is I suppose the best I can do for now. I've stopped trying to draw things and actually practice faces, anatomy, shapes, and follow the sticky.
I'm trying to basically forget everything I know and just build it up

the realization that this is probably my best finished piece- and that it's not even from this year- feels bad. but i've got to keep going. i don't wanna be stuck at this level

started drawing when i was a toddler. started taking it seriously a few years ago. i've always wanted to be a comic artist, but i didn't realize until recently just how inexperienced i am at compositions. all those years of drawing generic anime character facing left have really hurt me in this aspect

I do the same and I definitely feel like it is the best path. However, I think I should actually start to sit down more and do actual pieces, as that is what I enjoy and is actually a creative process, which can even make studying more motivating.

After doing boxes and staring at lamps for hours I decide to start free drawing, then ill hit that bump where I just can't properly draw something and I get annoyed and decide to do more boxes, then I start slowly moving forward in my drawing. Its weird

Yeah, this is a WIP version of a digital painting I'm working on. I've been drawing for the past 4 or 5 years or so, mostly self-taught. I'm 21, and my goal is to make it as a professional illustrator, before reaching my 30s anyway. So here's hoping.

It may be helpful to focus more on drawing than painting and rendering, because as it is... It feels flat, the forms aren't reading well, and it's stiff. I would try and incorporate more gesture into the underlying sketch before rendering it... And possibly study construction more, really just draw more, paint less. Once your drawing ability is solid, then painting will come very easily

I drew about an hour a day for a few months. I guess it wasn't proper or good practice because I still feel like I'm on square one of drawing. Some people I've shown this to really like it, on /ic/ I get told it's a polished turd. So I don't know wtf to do and get upset just by trying. I'm told to learn construction but when I try that it feels more confusing because the lay-in is never accurate.

I really like it, you got a cool and consistent style going on in each of the pieces. It's kind of hard to criticize since its stylized, and therefore applying the traditional rules on them is kind of useless. (Probably some really good artists on here that could probably help you though)

I'd say just keep on doing your stuff anon. Your stuff is great and far away from bad. Drawing more won't make the process go backwards either, so nothing to lose.

Hope to see more of your stuff on /ic/ :)

I put two because the one on the left got the most reaction online, but the one on the right means the most to me. It kinda marked the point when I realized that things don't have to be exact, you can change things from reference, you can imply things, to not be so Idk... detailed? I usually used to try to replicate some soft of traditional cross hatching look when I did portraits but I really started to enjoy actual PAINTING during/since that piece.

I've always drawn but I only take it "seriously" in bouts and then can't do anything for months. I'm currently in one of those phases right now, so it sucks majorly.

I like this guy. I know he's probably not my best, but He's my favorite

I started drawing about 4 years ago to help me overcome a bout of serious depression. I had flunked out of a university course that I thought I wanted to be in since I was a child. It felt like I was only ever good at one thing and then I failed at it, so I was useless. If I wasn't in a relationship at that time I would have probably ended it. I remember one of the only reasons I didn't was because I didn't want to make her cry. She liked my doodles and little drawings I would do though, so she encouraged me to pursue it. It's always been kinda off and on for me, But I've focused in a lot more in the past bit on really improving and studying a lot more. I'm trying to put together a portfolio. I'd like to make a career out of it someday, and I hope I can build a life where I do this since art makes me feel alive

If we all work hard enough, we can all make it. it's just a matter of time and determination
