How do you protect yourself from chargeback after a commission? Two months after I got paid and sent the final piece to the client, the client filed a chargeback. I used invoice, yes.

How the fuck do we keep ourselves safe?

You can't. Paypal, which is the standard service for private commissions, doesn't offer any real protection to service providers. It's incredibly biased toward buyers, who can pull out their money any time they want.
Paypal is not your best option in terms of not getting fucked, but it is the standard and if you do private commissions you're gonna be forced to use it unless you want to turn down a lot of people, and since none of us are ever gonna make it I doubt you're getting so many offers that you have the privilege of turning any of them down.

By not focusing on doing $20 character drawings for random dorks on Tumblr via fast-food style commission charts, and instead focusing on freelance commissioned work for established businesses.

>> No.3488869

The only solution for me is to return the money anyway, but never work with that person again and make others be aware of them. Paypal is kind of risky when is about to nsfw comissions.

speaking of commission charts, is it better to give quotes instead? I feel like it's more "professional" and both the client and artist would get what they want, and filter out the miserly clients who are trying to get the most for the cheapest possible.

Does anyone really use bitcoins? The fees look low compared to paypal but I don't know anyone who really uses it for commissions. People buy drugs with it, yeah, but how about for nsfw art?

>Does anyone really use bitcoins?
Not really, no. But it's the only way I can think of to avoid charge-backs. Good luck trying to convince someone to buy bitcoin and then learn how to send it lol

>is it better to give quotes instead?
Yes. This is what every other freelancing profession does. Your quotes need to be tailored to the needs of the project, the time required by you, and the client's usage of the work, your availability & experience, etc.

Sharing your prices before you know what someone actually wants from you is phenomenally stupid and just an awful business practice. Commission charts are the lowest of the low when it comes to professionalism, and it only attracts the worst, most inexperienced pain-in-the-ass "clients".

I think transferring the money from your paypal to your bank account works, but I never got charged back before.

How does this shit keep happening to you guys? I've never been scammed. Is it because I do furry porn commissions?

This!
I thought I was the only one who did this.

As SOON as I get money in my PayPal,
I either spend it IMMEDIATELY on Ebay, or transfer it to my bank account.

I have never been fucked over,
but I've read many stories like OP's.

I've been doing this since mid-2011.

This, I’ve heard of people getting fucked over because they paid bills already with the money that some cheap kike then charged back. But then those faggots don’t want to call out the scammer because “it feels mean to do” or some other bullshit, leaving other artists vulnerable. There’s no safe way to use PayPal with random online shitters, you just eat the risk if you insist on using it.
