How to get faster at painting? I'm very embarrassed to say this took hours to get to pic's point, (and I'm still working on it) but in my defense this is the third time I've ever tried to paint something. And while you're at it, roast me with directions on how to improve, would appreciate. Away from reference atm.

>new layer
>eyedrop tool, lay in some marks on a part you want to work on
>show/hide new layer, if you like what you see merge it down
>repeat until painting is done
Also block in everything before going into the details

takes you this long cus you need to do more form studies. youre guessing until you get the right answer instead of knowing it from the start

God bless

Haha you're right. If I keep doing it this way and guessing will I eventually learn form from brute force?

it wont be efficient and it will take a long ass time and it may never actually happen. if you actually study form and light you can apply the concepts to any object and any environment without spending hours and hours and hours just guessing until it looks right with every new environment and object

also learn your tools and use every shortcut available. the best way to get faster at your level should be by making studies though.

Unironically just draw more to refine your painting routine.
Always remember the main rule of art: from general to specific. So you won't waste your time on overdetailing something you would paint over anyway.
Plan everything as you sketch.
Do some exercise paintings focused around some certain fundamental or technique: edges, values, general shapes, warms vs cools,
