study color theory and do color studies. from reference and from life, to teach you not to use color picker. a fun exercise is to take a stock photo of something with a unified palette then create a piece (unrelated or very loosely related to the picture. ex: pic of a tropical island = drawing of a pretty girl). you just have to work with color a lot. sakimi has been working with color for SO long. its just second nature to her.


to learn the actual technique, she has videos of her entire work flow. lots of utilizing the lasso tool thats how she gets crisp edges.

But compositionally, it's broken. There's no focal point, the eye isn't lead anywhere, it's basically a grid. Color compositionally, it's flat, as the highlights are equal across the page, flattening out any attempt at a focal point as well, and the values are equal across the page.

This kind of work, while visually appealing (to some) are flawed - and more about special effects than they are about fundamentals of composition, and are just pumped out in the hundreds to feed social media.

Nothing wrong with digital pinup type stuff, but it doesn't really compete well with the good stuff.
