Why are there so few decent artists out there? It's really hard to find anyone producing anything I respect, that grabs me at all. Mitch Griffiths (picture) is insanely talented, but even he has his expressive limits. Who do you guys rate? I'm looking for something made by a living artist. Something that isn't just cartoons and shit.

This wave of painters who are making photo realistic paintings with literally no art, soul, or depth to them should be shot.

Historical painting is a near dead genre. Why would our society care to look at its forefathers in plush outfits and antiquated locales. It's nice in a museum but contemporary society has no desire to see it so it won't be produced.

Also romanticism is something else that's dead, no one is going to make pre raphaelite type art that won't just come off as cheap or flimsy these days.

Don't get me wrong, I like that kind of art myself, and I think it's a shame it isn't valued today. Modern society is about serving the baser passions and the art reflects it.
