Here's a higher res version. I'm trying to find the one shown off in the trailer, with all the characters. As that's the one that really stood out to me as being really really ugly. So many characters like Cloud and etc... just looked so bad.

there's a few bad ones (eg cloud) but the thing as a whole works rather nice.
it seems they went for "painterly" brushstrokes in order to give consistency to the project, but the rendering looks kinda amateurish because of that. nintendo has certainly done much better in the past.

Did they hire multiple artists to work on it or something? It's not like it could have been difficult to hire one statistics for the job to do a decent mural with all the characters that had decent composition/good colors, values, and lighting. I mean Jesus, it's just jarring to look at.

The color palette is exceptionally bad, everything just looks so muddy and ugly, and there's no consistent light source, so it just looks like it's pillow shsded, it's especially bad in this one >>3475444 lool at Mario and compare him to DK and MegaMan for example. It's a mess of a mural. Not only that, but the background looks REALLY ugly and contrasts poorly with the characters. There's no value scale and nothing pops, everything is the same oversaturated midtone. The one in the OP is slightly better since the background colors work better with the oversaturated colors, but it still has a lot of the same problems. Not to mention the poses and anatomy on a lot of the characters is really wonky, especially the face in a lot of them.

I'm genuinely temped to make one myself, just to shill it around and get more followers. A better mural and a better boxart. It'd take a lot of work though, it is 70+ characters.

Also, the shadows are all the same value as the original color, neither warm nor cold. Like, you especially see it in Fox, his pants go from green to a darker green, rather than from green, to a more blue-toned shadow as it should to create a nice palette.

This was definitely made by an amateur.
