Just draw things as simple as you can, the subtleties are your style.

Yeah have fun on that plateau you're building yourself.
Do this and save yourself: Avoid "finding your own style" for as long as you can.

>mindlessly fucking up proportions in some gimmicky way
>abusing same symbol drawing of semi-anime sameface
>using same color palette, brush preset and filters over and over again and stressing it as much as possible
Deviantart victims unironically think that this is what having a style means.

This.

It develops along the way of the artistic journey.
Experiementing with shapes, proportions, methods of coloring until it pleases you.

For me it's a mix between shapes and proportions I find appealing, muscle memory,
the way I make marks by "nature", whatever inspirations I absorbed, etc. And it keeps developing along other art skills.

Bad advice.
There is no such thing as being too early for stylisation, of course general drawing skills and "fundies" should not be neglected, but if you waited to master fundamental art skills you wouldn't be able to stylise in your lifetime.

I also don't agree that pushing stylization is necessarily a bad thing. A style is essentially your interpretation of the fundies. A good style comes from a good understanding and eventual deconstruction of the fundies, but I don't think you need to have an extreme proficiency in them to start playing around.

My own style is the result of a struggle from being interested in more digital painterly work and more simple, graphic work. It took many years (maybe about 6 or 7) of trying to sort out a cohesive direction I wanted to go with. I'm a big believer in the importance of having a singular, consistent style so it was tough having 2 different styles tugging at my work in opposite directions. Eventually I sort of merged the two styles, and then ultimately landed on a colorful, fun & graphic style and I've really enjoyed how its grown. I've also had more freelancing success with this as opposed to the more painterly stuff, since it's a little more versatile.

It doesn't.
Style is a fundamental, literally the application of constructive drawing to a canon of your own design.

You faggots don't know shit. Your all-god Loomis doesn't draw reality, everything he does is stylized from his teaching books to his commercial art. When you learn constructive drawing from him you're not learning how to construct reality, you're learning his self-designed canon for stylized anatomy.

/ic/ is useless and anyone who still comes here for advice is harming themselves.

This isn't an /ic/ created anomaly. Every art community has this idea of "ignore style it will jus happen".
