it's absolutely a stylistic choice. Why would he go darker on the value scale if he wants to keep the mood as light as possible.. it's harder to keep such a limited scale, and create something believable out of it. But I'm just talking to a based westerner, what can one expect.

If you've got some shit to figure out and the purpose of the piece reflects that then it's a study. There's not really much stretching of definitions when it comes to this shit.
