Let's assume you want to draw the logo on the left as accurately as possible.
How do you proceed? Do you start by the ears or do you do one of the side curves?

If you’re trying to get rid of symbol drawing, using simple shapes isn’t going to solve anything. The trouble people have with symbol drawing is that they can’t see pictures as colors and shapes. eg. If you’re copying a picture of a head and you’re trying to draw an eye, you think “oh an eye” and then, instead of copying the picture, proceed to draw an eye from memory in the spot where that eye was in the original picture. To avoid that, you have to practice using realistic pictures. Try to see things in terms of lines and organic shapes. an eye could be shaped like a parallelogram with rounded edges. Pay attention to the angles of lines, where they start and end, where they curve, how they curve, etc etc. When you’re done with the sketch (which should be relatively light), you have to see the picture in shapes and values/colors, and copy it that way. Be attentive to the darkness/lightness of regions relative to each other, so you don’t screw up. eg. There might be a triangular-shaped shadow next to the nose, take note that it’s darker than a shadow on the side of the cheek, but not as dark as the nostrils. Remember to periodically check that the darkness of your shadows relative to each other match those of the picture you’re copying, this helps correct mistakes where someone draws a shadow that is way darker than the original.

This is fine to teach yourself how to copy. /beg/ sticky goes over blocking in, plumb lines, checking angles, etc. I would start by with a vertical guidelines to ensure symmetry and notice that the mouth and eyes form an X. The width of the eyes is also about three mouths wide. The horizontal line between the ears is the same distance as the distance between the eyes and a bit less than the width of the mouth. The part above the eyes is the same height as the eyes. And so on.

Do what you're currently doing, trying to copy the logo as accurately as possible while checking angles and measuring. But definitely break out into drawing from life, it will help you much faster than logos.

Nothing but it's not what you use for logos , when "drawing" logos you don't literally draw in the traditional sense, you work with vectors. I don't know why you thought using logos would be a good idea but good luck .

>> No.3446149

OP do NOT copy logos you will never develop copying skills with them. I can't explain it but there is something inherent in logos that saps away any progress you could make

If this is what you want to do, leave /ic/ right now before you are poisoned.

Take an introduction to mechanical drafting class. If you're still in highschool (don't admit it), sign up for shop class, one that has CO2 dragsters as part of the course work.

To freehand this, imagine a bounding box around the logo and guess at its proportion. Make divisions and plot points where the logo touches the box, and where important features are. Draw straight lines only to capture angles correctly, and round out corners later.

Draftsmanship like this also helps you to draw real life objects. This anon has good advice.
I'm going to repeat what everyone else has said, this isn't going to help you break your symbol drawing habits very well. Symbol drawing is drawing familiar objects as simplified symbols, most notably things like parts of the human body. If you're going to break that, you have to tackle it directly.

I recommend a dose of Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain, to practice drawing what you see, and a dose of Drawabox or any other construction drawing reference, so you can learn to see and draw things as 3D forms. Breaking something down into simpler forms helps you to analyze it, and also allows you to memorize it so that you can reproduce that complex form from pretty much any angle you can imagine. These are very essential fundamental principles, so learn up, pup.

I blocked out the general shapes (oval for head, upside down triangle for torso, trapezoid for lower body) and made sure they looked okay before detailing in. Helps to ensure you don't go off the page by accident and keeps proportions in check.
