you got good at rendering which means you did it backwards and are gonna have a shitty time trying to do anything else. Learn how to draw and fundamentals and you are going to have an easier time translating to other mediums.

Have you tried painting on one layer and using nothing but the brush tool? Can't use layers, erasers, ctrl-z, lasso, etc. If you can't do that you're not as good as you think you are.
