Aside from the whole ewww Calarts style etc that everyone is sick of seeing in modern cartoons:

There was a 2011 Thundercats show that got cancelled by CN, who are infamous for treating their original tv shows like garbage (putting them in bad time slots, not airing it at all.... Symbiotic Titan, Transformers Animated, Green Lantern: TAS, and Young Justice are good examples of shows that got mishandled.

Needlessly to say, it's opening some fresh wounds.

but the technical ability behind the drawings looked impressive. Focus on anatomy and scaling the characters to human-height environments and coloured in paint with pain-staking details.

I remember as a kid that the intro would look really badass and then the actual cartoon left a lot to be desired, and the art style was never good. A lot of the reverence comes from people simply disliking the "tumblr style" and I guess the cartoon looks more kid friendly then the original one. I'm also guessing that they're trying to capitalize on successful stuff like Teen Titans GO.

Your forgetting the amount of energy that was carried in this series though. The whole thing relied on a limited budget but there was a lot of respect behind the team while they were getting inspired by the shows concept art at the time.
The department CLEARLY felt very strongly about the show and they wanted to express how unique it was, warts and all.

This remake does NONE of that. Its relying on the same fucking >>>lolrandomxD<<< format for nearly 15 fucking years. People are sick shit of this.
Netflix Castlevania PROVED that people want to tune into animation that actually respects the medium and goes out of its way that anyone can like "cartoons", no matter what age, and the Thundercats TV series before this at least went out of its way to do just that.

The same exact thing happened with Teen TItans GO. When it was announced a lot of people were excited because they were expecting something like the 2000s cartoon. There was a massive backlash, dislikes, people complaining and so on, and now it's massively successful cartoon. The problem with modern animation is not tumblr or the lack of semi realistic anatomy, the root problem goes deeper than that and it's something that has been happening for the past 15 years or so.
