We seem to have a high percentage of NEETS on this board. I'm just curious at the level of skill you guys have. Can you share your work please? I just want to know if ample time without paid education really does equal skill.

I am a NEET but I am only six montha into learning art so I have no skill. I think I am making progress at a higher than average pace however. Being a NEET affords me not only time to practice but time to think about art as a whole. At school or work you cannot really think about art, you cannot just drop your task and stare at a persons gesture and examine the distrobution of mass and energy. You cannot think about and study art history while you are studying something else. I hope to become a non-neet by advancing my art skills to the point in which I can make a living from art. I chose to do art for my love of all things visual and because I will be able to do it from my home.

drawing is one of the few things i still derive enjoyment from, aside from watching old anime and crime dramas.
been feeling pretty productive lately but usually i barely make 1 drawing/month.
think i may be bipolar, apparently it runs in the family.

i'd probably benefit from some proper schooling but i find i do fine on my own.
parents enrolled me in some courses as a kid and those taught me some valuable basics.
basics are important.

it's tough sometimes but i'll keep trying, and i hope my fellow neets will too

Uhhhhh I'm about 3 years now of not leaving the house and mostly learning various thing to keep myself busy
I feel like I improved in my general art skill just by reading works and stuff

But my coloring still isn't great and I still have trouble with perspective

I mostly like to do backgrounds since I can listen to a lecture or podcast while I do it since once you have your plan set you out you can sorta go on autopilot rather than have to check every single thing like you would in a cg or character

This is about 8 months of NEETing difference.
In that time my only goal has always been to draw "more manga" so my gains do not reflect the NEET artist experience as a whole. Someone aiming for realism or portrait painting probably could've gotten more spectacular looking gains in that 8 month period. All I've focused on were improving my lineart and learning values, on top of improving the basic fundies. Also, one thing this picture doesn't show, is my sketching in general has improved a boatload and I don't quite have to depend on photo references as much anymore. To put it another way, I'd have to concentrate and put a lot of effort down on paper to get the result on the left 8 months ago; but now, the drawing on the right is basically my average output, something I could do just as a warmup or a practice sketch.

There is a couple things I want to point out though. Obviously, being a NEET doesn't guarantee skill, it only guarantees time. What you do with your time is entirely up to you. Ideally, you wanna be drawing everyday, at least 4-8 hours, especially since you have no responsibilities. But you need to have good time management skills, because if before you're a NEET you're always being distracted by social media or 4chan, watching anime or movies, or having a bad sleep schedule- those things are only gonna get worse when you're a NEET.
And this is solely my opinion, but I'd say your lifestyle would benefit from having a part time job instead of being a full NEET. That way you have a reason to leave your house everyday, you make cash(bonus if you're not making money off your art already), and in general it's healthier not to be thinking and working on art 24/7. You burn out quick drawing 8-12 hours a day everyday, no matter how much you love art. But maybe that's just me.

>> No.3435733

>>3435717

Agreed, people who are NEET usually lack a sense of responsibility, discipline and self control so they won't even value all the time they have available and waste on internet browsing and jerking off.

You could even argue that someone who is working or studying might be more productive with the time they have left to draw because they understand the value of it.

>I just want to know if ample time without paid education really does equal skill.

Of course it does if you're focused on the right things and consistently working. I would say most NEETs became NEET not to pursue art but because of other problems in life. Thus, (at least in my case) problems focusing, depression, not knowing what to do, etc. would get in the way of their art progress probably more so than most non-NEETs .

honestly never coming back to /ic/ because this is the second time someone has accused me of tracing and I never have, that is the biggest compliment in itself. "obviously traced" jesus christ you just undercut your whole opinion if you want to assert those are "so clearly" obvious. the faces are ballpoint pen taken into photoshop and illustrator. the anime girls are copy and pasted, its an image macro thats not supposed to be taken serious you fucking mongoloid

There's a very specific look to work that's traced by an unskilled artist. Whether you traced it or not, you should develop your eye and avoid that look. But then again it doesn't look like you take criticism very well...

So maybe if you sperg out some more, you can simply convince everyone that your work is appealing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

son, I know you didn't draw that head on the left or the right by yourself. I recognize both of them.

pretty nice drawings, might want to play around with different contour line weight, even line weight all around kind of flattens things out

Interesting way of drawing. Did you learn from a prestigious art school? The precision on the head in the right is insane.

>Agreed, people who are NEET usually lack a sense of responsibility, discipline and self control so they won't even value all the time they have available and waste on internet browsing and jerking off.
Wow rude! Some of us also waste our time sleeping and watching countless hours of youtube tutorials despite rarely doing any art ourselves. Hopefully you'll bear this in mind in future before branding us all worthless procrastinators.
