>>3429840
Just my two cents but your composition is a little wide, although if it's more than just a standalone painting then I digress. As long as you add shadows and blurs surrounding the focus of the piece, you should have a pretty good composition that draws the eyes to the humans/car.

it's very stylized and looks good, my issues are minor, like in the case of the hair that directly touches the eyebrow and the eye which I think is closed. The shapes mix together and it's less clear what's going on. The line for the abs is suggesting a shape that looks out of place, the right hand appears to be slightly larger than the left, and the line for the ear looks flipped, but that's about it. Good job.

>>3430471
you're starting the right thing too high, it'd be hidden behind the left thigh in this perspective, which seems a tad too long.

>>3430426
I'd try to use more reference at this point. The folds in some of the clothes are suggesting materials that don't fit with the shapes. As a note for 3, the shape of the shirt wouldn't require stiches in those positions, and their length also suggests that they're not necessary.

1. Learn basic anatomy even if you'd attach surreal bodyparts

2. If you get an idea you want to share do value composition thumbnails first so you can get your lighting scheme right. No one is going to be interested in 2D cutout soup can head, you need to portray him in environment of interest.

If it's going to be surreal "I got Andy Warhol fetish" piece for art school, go crazy with background colors and do some weird stuff structures and cages and shit check out Francis Bacon and Lucian Freud. If you want to portray him as a conceptual character in a drawing, go back to do some thumbnails to get idea where he belongs.

I tried fixing it on MS paint. I drew see through first (remnants of pink lines visible still) and noticed that the knee pit (where calf and thigh connect) in her left leg cannot fit the right leg underneath. It really helped to draw both the contour of the top and bottom leg, and then the tubular form of lower leg to see the mistake. I moved her bottom leg closer to her butt and erased the right hip that shows behind her top leg.

After I mirror flipped it didn't pop out as much. Feel free to correct as I might be lost, I'm not too anatomy guru. Line work provided by MS Paint and old HP ball mouse at work.

Only thing I think is there should be something filling the space above them, a chandelier or a waiter-drone or something, it feels rather empty. Well the most important thing to create interest is to have a story and personality to your character.. Your obviously have some of that in you pose: like a comanding stern/determined woman. So depedning on what you are going for you could exaggerated those features. Pic related for example, more clearly stern, comanding and stuff.

very good. there's a few inaccuracies and you perhaps should have drawn more tendons, i think there's also like a conceptual error you're making, thinking about what muscles actually do. but it's sort of hard to explain, so i'll leave it out, would just be confusing.

one thing though, if you do another one, perhaps it'd be more useful to indicate the volumes than the striations. it's more important that you have a clear idea of the actual 3d mass of the muscles than just reminding yourself they have lines on 'em

it's only my first try though and I'm bad at anatomy, so i'll get better the more i do these. i was just looking for critique because I wasn't sure about some muscles (especially around the pits, the side of her leg, and the obliques).

looks a lot better.

verticality like a strong vertical element to give the picture more scope, but to be honest just brightening it up basically fixed it, there's more contrast between the foreground and the background now so you don't need anything extra to give it a sense of space.

Your values need serious help. What's the focal point of the drawing? Your values don't lead the eye anywhere, the whole thing is flat, except the lower righthand corner, which leads the eye out of the composition, and the foremost figure has the same values as the background, which flattens the whole piece and competes for the focal point with the foreground figure. You've created a vertical line through the composition, too, with the drawing, and it's on a grid, which isn't very visually exciting or interesting, and leads the eye out of the drawing.

I get that you're trying for a Mobius type style, but he was a master, almost genius level at focal point and values, and his work was incredibly subtle and planned out - and he was a master at dynamic angles, not tacked-to-a-grid like this. Put a little more thought into focal point, angles, composition, and especially value. All of those combined work to make a good drawing. There are small inconsistencies with your lighting, such as the mask on the main figure, most of it should be in shadow per your lighting, but that's minor compared to the larger issues you have.

You're drawing legs with no regard for the actual form, contour, and aethetics, and most likley no knowledge of the structure and anatomy of them.

A figure is several things - form, volume, structure, lighting, texture, and contour. As an artist you choose which of these to incorporate into a drawing, to reproduce the figure.
Redlining is pretty pointless without your reference. The best advice is simply this - look at what you're drawing, and learn to translate that into a drawing that pleases the eye, not just copies it. Try to learn to see contours as s curves, that are interesting and fun to draw. Learn to see something interesting in the pose to show people, have a reason for the drawing to exist. Right now all you're doing is tracing (badly) porn, and there's no point to it, other than to indulge your hormones. Put as much attention to learning how legs work as you have breasts.

Translucent materials reflect their environment, and there's a certain amount of refraction, too, so you'll have to either get that candle and see how it interacts with it's environment, or fake it as best you can. You'll have the reds and greys of the stuffed toy reflecting and refracting, and the light source, and since it's clear, and has no base color, it will be mostly refractions and reflected light, along with blacks, greys and white in the facets.

I'll be honest, this would be tough even for a seasoned pro.

Thanks so much for all the critique man, I really really appreciate it. I definitely need to do a ton more value studies. I tried to fix it up a little more and I attempted to draw the eye more to the figure in front. It looks a little better to me but idk, I've been staring at it so long again. I probably should call it done at this point, I think I'm just turd polishing, I need to be much more aware of the composition next time before I start rendering.

Would you mind explaining how I've created a vertical line through the composition and how it's on a grid? I'm not sure I get what you're saying there. Thanks!

Your perspective is off, and you're not showing weight properly.

if what she's sitting on is hiding the back of her right thigh, then it should hide anything below that line, but her left hip is in front.

Also, having one leg under the other doesn't mean you have to literally draw them one thigh appart and completely under. Skin, fat and muscle all compress on another. with perspective, the right leg is now in front of the other, not only under. Also, anatomy has to be consistent, just because it's hidden doesn't mean it's not there.

Hope this helped.

why are people even allowed to post stupid shit like this?

What do you mean no regard for the form or contour? Aesthetics only apply to a style and this is clearly a sketch. What do you mean "most likely" no knowledge of anatomy? Is it wrong or not? Why do you think redlining is pointless without a reference, esp if you're considering anatomy you shouldn't even need a ref.

tldr stop talking out of your ass and maybe less people would hate you both here and irl

A professor once told me that if you're drawing someone jumping out of a window, you should have the gesture drawing done by the time they hit the ground. At 30min you have gone far beyond gesture. Not to say that you're study isn't excellent, but you left 'gesture' at the one minute mark.

If you're going to take design ques from smough, remember that the character himself is fucking nuts and the armor he wears is a reflection of his personality. In a world building sense, you've given armorer's the ability to create wonderful relief sculptures in the armor of a single armed man. As a suggestion, I think you should carry out the same level of personality into the weapons or other props that you're character is interacting with.

In other words, you've given a max level character a mid level weapon. Lets see how you can do putting the same sculptural elements into the axe he's holding. The axe itself looks more practical, but apparently you've crossed into assless-dress territory. If you're going hard, go hard all around.

Those necks look a little thin, but design wise you're visual "resting places" are in good taste.

>>3435013
You're painting is divided into a foreground and background. They don't feel like a single cohesive unit because you've painted them separately. They should feel as if they are in the same space. The contrast of warm colors in front and cool colors in back is nice, but when you mix colors with black to create darker values, you've taken any space you've created with atmospheric perspective and compressed it into the foreground. It's also making your painting look flat. Next time you paint, try using hard edges, no blending tool, and do not use black at all. Go to a %90 grey at most and do that sparingly. You might not see what i'm talking about as you read this, but it will make sense as you paint and you'll improve quickly. You've essentially polished a turd, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It shows that you're willing to carry out your entire idea to finish, which is important in painting, which is more of a 400m dash than a 100m sprint.

>>3433835
>>3431616
Break up that deco with more deco, google 'art deco frames' for some line art ideas, because your accents are great, but you need to push them a bit more.

And some general advice for most people in this thread: Stop watching anime. It's holding you back developmentally. It's nice to see people working on their contour drawing skills, but you need to expand your understanding of form and space. There's no rule that says that you have to make a painting by completing a drawing, then filling it in. Too many people here are creating paintings in such a stiff and formulaic way. I know it's because most of you learned your painting from concept artists in an attempt to emulate what you enjoy in art. I urge you instead, to learn painting from painters.

Just fill the canvas right now. Fix stuff later. It will be easier to see all the color and value relationships when you don't have any white. Also, don't feel bad for gridding. I work on large canvases, using my own photo reffs and I grid with a tape measure, no one cares about how you got to point b, and anyone that whines about how impure painting in a more restrained and formulaic way probably does plein air wit a brush in their sphincter. Just fill it, then do passes. It's more efficient to fix spots later and to work entire areas, just keep a note pad and make an identical sketch with notes on what to fox where.

>>3438918

I don't have it, but start with Drawing On the Right Side of the Brain. It's full of psudo-science trash, but the exercises are good, if you take them seriously. Most first level college drawing classes use the exercises and it's just a step off from as close to a 'classical' drawing education that you will get.

The 'one year' thing is a bit of a meme, because it actually takes a while to train your eyes and your brain. You should focus on drawing traditionally before touching a tablet, but you can start animation whenever.

also: if animation is your end goal, you should check yourself before you wreck yourself.

I went to school where she taught - art majors weren't allowed to take her course. It's not a book for serious art students. It's not a step off from "as close to a classical education", at all.

Aw thanks man! I’ve been here since I was just starting so I don’t think I’m getting infected anytime soon. Although nowadays I just post here on draw threads and like once a month.
Glad you liked my paintings though :)

I never said that the book was written for art students, but if you would like to tangent into semantics, the book explores concepts like understanding the correlation between positive and negative space, drawing what you see without understanding what you're looking at (preconceptions) etc. and puts those concepts into understandable terms for (like you said) non artists. Everyone who is just starting art is a non-artist. I'm just going to take a wild guess and assume that you went to an accredited institution as I did, and that there were classes that were electives for your 'non-artists'. That class was likely an "art of sketching" class that could be differentiated from a "drawing 1" course in depth of content. Of course it's a watered down version, but so is our book in question. It still explores the 'fundies' in a way that is easily identifiable for a non-artist, maybe like someone on a Babylonian Sky Writing image board who is asking for a "1 year drawing routine png its gives you books or lessons to follow".

What if I gave the recommendation assuming that the person was starting from scratch and like most people in these draw threads, the person may lack an attention span or have commitment issues stemming from a string of poor lifestyle choices or a lapse in discipline. What if i chose the book because it is essentially a vague attempt to get a child to eat peas by putting them in macaroni and cheese. What if most people on this board aren't motivated enough to ever 'make it', but kind folks such as I drop in here to hold people's hands once in a while.

Additionally, I've attached an image of a "value scale" because you have trouble seeing between black and white.

I already know it's bad but just want to get some input about the pose, does it look natural?
She'll be looking out the window of an old stone building. That's all thank you and sorry I posted this garbage.
