Anime thread to rule them all edition.

This is the place for:

1. Participating in anime group studies:
>Keep it to 1-3 group references. The less the better. There is plenty to learn from any given image.
>Mindfully break down the reference in various ways instead of mindlessly copying.
>Keep your copies true to the reference but don’t overwork it. Start a new drawing.
>Make multiple copies. It should get easier each time. If not, reevaluate your methods.
2. Posting your individual anime studies:
>They should be studies drawn with a reference or tutorial.
>Provide the reference used if you can.
>Your study should be a direct copy of some aspect of the reference such as the shapes or colors.
3. Serious discussion about emulating anime style art:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Keep most of your personal works for /ALT/ or the other critique threads. Here we should be drawing copies from good references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

Very nice stuff. That's Hampton's method right? Just make sure you keep in mind how the different parts connect. Like it might be helpful to extend the upper leg cylinders up to the pelvis or create your own separate shape in between so that your understanding of those connecting areas isn't vague when you try to draw from imagination.

In relation to drawing real life, does anyone know of any good references of japanese people specifically? There's tons of westerners but I haven't seen many for just the japanese. I'm sure they have a bunch in stores like real action pose or hyper angle, which I have, but I'd like more if I can get them.

Here's a folder of references if anyone else wants them.

A fellow Anmi fan. Love it. You really nailed down the essentials of the style from the color, lighting and especially the eyes. Could tell it was Anmi just from a glance. One thing I noticed was the ear is at a different angle than the reference. The strokes in the hair should curve more to reflect hair instead of straight like how you did it. The threads are quite slow lately in general as evident by the Alt Style Thread, might be related to something?

Not sure if it's the head size necessarily. I think it mostly revolves around lines and line weight. Japanese tend to have very thin lines. I kept trying thinner lines but he would keep saying that I had to go even thinner. I eventually just went with a 1-pixel brush since you can't go thinner than that.

The g-pen is also very popular in Japan. It's what a lot of manga artists use so a lot of inspiring artists also use it. Trying to simulate the g-pen can also help.

Also that guy that says:

I think this is the problem of many people who try to draw anime without any proper study of anatomy.

Size and density does not contribute to the hand drawn feel. The hand drawn feel is because of the texture of the brush and the texture of the paper, eg https://beroleagle.deviantart.com/art/Paint-Tool-SAI-Pencil-Brushes-96742060 you should play with the settings

However most good textured brushes are on PS (find this good for any general purpose textures) or CSP (find this program good for brushes thick at the ends).

Measure the proportions of each character and get them down right before you go onto drawing.

You have to do both. Redrawing teaches you proportions and angles unique to the style you're learning, but recreating them is a completely separate skill. And it would be silly to try to learn a style by solely doing imagination. How would you even know what you're doing wrong?

No, i mean just literally the angles of the lines. When you first start out drawing you will be surprised at how exaggerated the angles of some lines are drawn. Just try and draw an exact copy and compare your product with the reference and you'll see what I mean.

First time studying/trying to draw anime. Going to have to spend time thinking about layer workflow for when I eventually want to ink/tone/color. Learned a lot just from this before my pen died. Breaking it down into simple shapes makes it easier to gauge the proportions and remember those proportions. Eventually you'll be able to see those shapes in your head and just draw the final details immediately.

Did you mean to change her proportions like that? It seems like you lost track of the overall image and only matched the details. It still looks good though.

>>3453633
Are you using construction? You should check out the links in >>3421785 . Draw a shape for the head first without the hair then add dividing lines for the center of the face and the eye line before adding the rest of the details. Also draw at least a bit bigger than the size of the bottom heads; The other heads are too small for you to draw the lines properly or put in the small details. The bottom middle head looks the best.
