>Instagram
>Maybe a tip jar Patreon.
Wouldn't hurt to have
>Twitch
>Picarto
>HentaiFoundry
accounts with links to your art pages and then catch some people's interest through normal conversation.
I've also see people link to:
I haven't used those two but a quick glace makes it seem like a easy place for someone skilled to stand out.

what do you mean with shilling? You literally post your art and get 3 likes, that's it.

Speaking of which, when should I begin shilling my social media and posting stuff? I'm pretty /beg/ tier I think so I don't know if there's any point (who wants to see my shitty gestures and studies??) to it now.

Just keep to a central "hub" gallery for now on a site you like while you build up. You can never be truly active on more than like 2 sites anyway.

for getting attention? lol nah, just thirsty tumblerites use that to get a buck or two. Well unless you're a qt girl, you probably won't get anything out of it except a thirst button for your blog.

Shill-Expert here

Portfolio-Style Art Sites
>DeviantArt
>ArtStation
>Pixiv
Portfolio sites make it easier for fans to view all your work in one place, but aren't much good for garnering new followers. They're a decent homebase to link back to if you don't have your own website.

Social Sites:
>Twitter
>Facebook
It's easier to gain followers here than the former, but you have to post relevant things often (emphasis on RELEVANT and OFTEN), or your art will get swallowed up in other's feeds. These sites will recommend posts to existing followers depending on how often they "like" your shit + frequency of your posts. Likes are shown to your follower's followers, increasing the chance for your work to be seen by new eyes. When not posting art, you maintain your following be being social (sharing opinions, replying to other's posts, shitposting, ect).

Shill-Central
>Reddit
Their ToS explicitly states that you aren't allowed to advertise yourself, and yet it's one of the best sites to do so. As long as you title your post appropriately, redditors will upboat your content to that sub's front page.
The formula: Find the appropriate sub for your art, read their rules on tagging/labeling, and make a post that doesn't sound like an ad. Examples:
>Splatoon fanart would be titled "Just reminding you who best girl is"
>Lucio fanart, "Lucio breaks it down"
>Tenryuu fanart, "Commission of Tenryuu for my boat-loving friend"
Sorry, but you'll have to get over the cringe factor if you want those pageviews.

Tumblr
>Tumblr
Lowest tier social site. "Likes" don't show in other's feeds, your posts aren't recommended to anyone, and the tags are only good for organizing posts on your own blog- they do shit-all for discovery. If you want followers, you'll have to get lucky by having someone with an already existing follower-base reblog your art.

Twitter is a pretty bad site though. Bigger artists are more likely to get seen than smaller artists (which can be pretty bad if you're a pretty good artist but don't have a following because people ignore you)

Artstation intimidates me for being so professional. At least on DeviantArt you can shit around with joke art and studies, but with Artstation it really IS an online portfolio.
Am I overestimating how pro Artstation really is? Can I feel free to upload the gud stuff along with something like pic related?
Also (you) for some instagram insight?

not many, just under 5k. it's not enough to know how to garner followers- you need follow through by actually putting out content on the daily, which i don't anymore. yeah i know, ngmi. (also no one gives a shit about studies unless theyre a e s t h e t i c)

>inb4 "but anon, if you dont have many twitter followers yourself, how do i know you're not full of shit"
i follow the same habits when posting on new social sites and they've never failed to get me a few thousand followers to start off. i always taper off around 5-15k because the high i get from the influx of attention & likes cripples my workflow and i stop producing content. it's taken me years to even identify it as a problem and i've been addressing it only recently. (ie checking socials less after posting content & closing down messengers when it's time to draw)
but IF you post relevant things often, fans & promoters/managers WILL find you. it doesn't even have to be "good" art, it just has to be easily consumable
