So I had a mental break last night and now nothing I put on paper has any sense of flow and generally looks like shit. This has happened a few times this year but this time I seriously think it’s starting to affect my work. I feel like I just got pushed back about a year in my abilities. Anyone else relate?

I have a shit ton of work coming up in the next few months too. Should I just wait until my semester ends and grind like hell during summer to get back on track?

Try practicing an exercise that you already know you're good at. Something really simple. That'll probably help you to get back on track.

Thanks, I’ve been doing a bit of that. It’s not “dios mio my life is ending” sort of thing but it’s pretty distressing and makes me feel like a fool for freaking out about stupid shit

can you post a picture? Sorry if that comes off as insensitive or prodding but I've never had anything like that and I feel people would give better advice if you could give us more to work with.

This is an unfinished sketch from today.

I would agree with what the first anon said and go back to where you are most comfortable with skill wise. Sometimes I find drawing happy things like rabbits or trees make me less stressed as well.

Mental breaks are a social construct.

Just draw

>> No.3383396

Stop masturbating
Stop multitasking
Stop listening to music while you draw

I know I'm going to sound insane but I usually go through this right before I have a breakthrough and learn how to draw a little better. I have a mental break down about my art and lose my mind and then something clicks. I just have to keep pushing through even though I feel like I need to burn all my sketchbooks and drink myself to death.
