Are art classes worth it? Not a school curriculum or art college, but just in general and how much is it usually

Yes, if you go to an atelier (i.e watts or something) otherwise? fuck no. You need to immerse yourself in this shit. Ateliers are fucking expensive, real expensive, so be careful and choose a god one

it all depends on the instructor and your willingness to learn since most of the benefits of going to classes is the personal advice.
If your teacher sucks, you either wont learn anything or will learn bad habits, and you have to put in the effort to apply what you are told.
If you are just starting to draw, though, art classes are usually very worth it since they allow for some type of foundation/path to start.

Yes to some degree, if the instructor isn't lazy. I graduated from an art school, freshman year was shit. I never learned that much, cause the instructor either didn't teach or they just gave us hand outs to review them ourselves. I ended up self studying a majority of the art fundamentals needed to pass my subjects, it really depends on the instructor OP.

If you have a really really good teacher it is almost invaluable. If you have a bad teacher then it can pretty much kill your career, and waste a lot of your time and money as you will learn a lot of bad habits.

See if there are life drawing sessions in your area. There is a place around me that has a nude model come in every other week, and it's $10 to participate. It's a great way to learn gesture and anatomy, and a great place to meet other artists. So if you're looking for something that is like a class, but not structured like a school, it's a good place to go. Just make sure you attend consistently.

One bad teacher kills your career? Sounds pretty weak to me. I had two, maybe 3 bad teachers getting a degree in art/illustration, and they just wasted time, they didn't touch my passion and creativity and motivation. I lost an entire class, and grade, in advanced watercolor, because the "visiting professor" was a hippy wastecase, and never bothered to file the grades for the entire class. Nothing we could do, because even the college couldn't find him.

Holy fuck I get that there doesn't seem to be a lot of standards in your average art school, but that's a new level of irresponsibility. I feel for you anon, good job for still sticking through.
