hello /ic/ i am an animator for a new upcoming cartoon network show.
i've practiced loomis, Bridgman, vilppu, and i feel like i mastered drawing romantic scenes such as this one.

Style > skill

Fundamentally sound, super-skilled work is not necessarily appropriate for every context. Stripped down styles like this are often much more appealing to a much wider audience than some Ruan-Ji type of work, and there's nothing wrong with that. Different strokes for different folks.

This is embarrassing. I get the cartoons are heavily stylized and I appreciate it when its well done but I can't wrap my head around why so many modern cartoon have such a boner for ugly shit.

I blame the simpsons and adventure time. Both shows had simplistic yet appealing styles which were misinterpreted by most of the retards as an excuse to draw like children

Simple, subtle art styles becoming popular make it easy for fakers to get in because a lot of the time animation executives aren't really interested in animation and can't tell the difference between a simple but well done drawing and a downright amateur one
