How do we keep those "self taught" "artists" from flooding /ic and prevent them from spreading crabby antisocial behaviour?

Also, which university/ art college did you attend to?

Nothing wrong with decent self taught artists joining, so long as they aren’t self righteous shitheads. And I went to Goldsmiths

It's the opposite. People who visited an art school are generally the laughing stock whenever it comes up since 99% of the time an art school alumnus is still garbage or still flips burgers on the side since his art career doesn't make enough money.

Don't bother, this retard does this every time. His next argument will be that whatever artist you list doesn't actually count as self taught because they had a mentor or artist friends or were talking with other artists or read books and watched lessons and shit.

>> No.3362280

>>3362223
If the definition of self taught just means never attended art school, then there is actually a disproportionately high amount of self-taught artists in the industry when compared to just how many art school graduates there are who never make it. In fact, I'd say it's probably even the majority. You can just list any random 10 professional artists and chances are 5-6 of them are self taught.

I went to uni to learn engineering to earn a degree that leads to a job in tech so I can afford both the time and money to learn how to draw as a non-income producing hobby.

I have no regrets.

Self-taught artists make up a significant portion of every art-oriented industry. Not all of them are particularly good (Rob Liefeld being among them) but they not only exist but do so in large numbers.

If I were happy with my first draw then this would be a terrible hobby. The constant room for improvement makes the activity worth pursuing.

I have 4 hrs a day for hobbies during the week. It’s been working out for the past 8yrs - I cycle drawing around with some other activities.

Drawing for money always seems counterintuitive. I personally wouldn’t want a job drawing. The pay ratio to effort is low, and you can’t choose what to draw. There are much more lucrative jobs, and I’d rather draw what I want.

No problem with self taught artists that know their stuff and are able to do a great job. It actually impresses me when i meet someone that learned on his/her own. I like the fact that some of them are trying to perfect their artwork without easy ways even if they fail a few times, it takes some perseverance to want to keep going that way . (the few ones i meet.)

If anything, saying you went to art school (and not specifying that it was an ARC approved atelier) should produce that hand wash meme.
