might be cool to think about the function of the chess pieces too, like bishops are long range, knights are short range but mobile, rooks tend to hold a file (a column) and protect the king, the queen does everything (and i mean everything boys) and the pawns hold or gain ground, often entrenching themselves in direct opposition with other pawns.

Cute, but like other anon said the arms are too short. Ends of fingertips generally touch at least the top part of the knee. If you lengthen the arms it should be totally fine.

Hey, so, I'm studying animation and last year I did the squash and stretch exercise using 2 different geometric shapes. Idk how relevant the animation is to you, but for me, creating a formula for my shapes and sticking to it, no matter how much I had to distort my shape helped so much and it eventually became muscle memory. I'm aware that this could be done in seconds digitally, but to get you into the mindset of recognising and following patterns and proportions it can be great.
