Are we ever going to get actual animtion where each frame is actually drawn and not a glorified flash animation where a single drawing is tweened to oblivion?

Bullshit, except for very few studios and productions all anime nowadays is either full of CG dogshit or low quality as hell. This is what happens when you create a market of shit eaters who care more about quantity than quality.

>> No.3353084

Probably not, animation is mostly for kids and 97% of the adults who watch it, are into it for the content rather than the form (see Rick and Morty, for instance).
Only artists care about the quality of animation, so yeah...

the characters are almost always hand drawn in anime and when they aren't it's very short.

I am afraid no.

the majority of people don't care or don't even see the difference.
producers are cheap and only care about sales. so 3D animation dominates the animation industry; they consider 2D to be inferior, childish.
I've been working in a 3D animation studio and was asked to deliver short 2D animation clips.
even 3D animators think 2D animation is easy and simple and vastly underestimate the amount of work that goes into it.

traditional frame by frame animation as we know it is dead. thanks to fucking Toon Boom and Flash.

And this breaks my heart.

But I decided to try make my own films, for a very small, dying group of people. and for myself.

(I am only talking about the west, japan is still producing high quality stuff. but this is another thing in total)

Don't worry anon, once I git gud I'll start making quality animation and single handedly revive 2D animation and bring forth the new renaissance. Then I'll come here on /ic/ and start recruiting and training you folk to join my new studio.

The industry has no fault for this. Its the consumer. They are cheap fucks who are looking for quantity not quality. But nothings ever dead, every trend comes back. Someday people will realize that cheap shit is not worth it.

ohh my b. well then ye full traditional 2D animation is dead.

>> No.3356039

A lot of 2D animation is DEAD because they're not finding ways of adapting the art to modern times.

Castlevania on Netflix and Song of The Sea are 2D and have been quite successful, alongside One Punch Man and Space Dandy. Sonic Mania is a big budget 2D game and look how it turned out.
You just need to find a certain "click" and you reap in the benefits; implement really cool looking visuals and ideas not seen before in the animation and avoid copying "Renaissance Disney" and the "Nine Old Men", or else it will just stay dead.

People will be able to tell when something looks dated. Make 2D animation in a modern context and people will flock to it.

In the West: No.

Japan is your only chance. The market has been diluted but if the budget is there, great things come out of Japan.

The anime industry in China is growing along with the influx of chinese web comics. I predict China and unified korea to go neck to neck and even surpass them in the cartoons industry within the next 5 to 10 years. Meanwhile in the states and possibly canada, 2D will make a comeback thanks to Disneys tv programming and netflix growing demand for anime style films. Japans days are coming to an end where anime is concerned.
