it's not copying, it's a study. you learn how to break the subject in elements which you're able to use in the future for your own stuff.

say you draw the octopus from here once. in the future your octopuses and similar objects will look more believable.

Use an opaque gold as the base, with burnt sienna for the left shadows, van dyke on the right, and viridian on top. Just avoid doing it if you're using acrylics

Note that some colours, like cadmiums for example are always opaque, but the advantage of this mix is that you could actually develop a smoke colour that was partly or wholly transparent in order to layer it.

Do your highlights as close to white as possible and shadows as close to black to achieve an easy metalic look

If the material is reflective sure but portraying the reflection accurately doesn't necessarily communicate that said material is metallic.

drawing metal properly is about getting the reflection of the environment around the object's surface correct
basic drawing
the part that makes it hard for beginner tier scrubs to wrap their head around is the fact that the reflection is being distorted due to the various angles that jewelry and most reflective metals have on them, curves etc
once you understand the basics of drawing and perspective and can apply that to any object it's fairly easy to get metallic surface reflections to be "good enough" that they work. gotta know how to do it strictly first though

My issue with drawing the OP example is not the reflection, but having to render the texture of cracking or lightly brushed metal on top of the reflection. Highly polished steel or chromed surfaces are definitely all about reflections wrapping around forms, like in >>3357434 or >>3349949, but they're so smooth that you don't have to worry about physical texture.

I'm probably just dumb, though.

Its night and I had a flashlight and decided to try that lighting from different angles thing, but there where no strike differences like such in the vid. Funny you posted this, and weird I randomly thought of that post after seeing it years ago, and coincidentally you post it here.
Must be video editing, especially on those cheekbones and nose.

if you need help visualizing, just look at >>3349949 and realize that the box and everything else in the BG is perfectly reflected on the razor itself
it's easy to see there thanks to the yellow of the label
