>What is /ALT/?
If you're looking for a place to post your cartooning then you've found the right general. This is /ic/s 1st and only merged hub where both Eastern and Western stylization can coexist peacefully, hence the double title. However, by community demand and long history, this is favorably an Anime general.
>Rules & Guidelines
(1) Any form of cartooning is welcome; so submit and receive feedback from others. (2) Please resize your images before posting. (3) Share your knowledge and (4) Remember to not be afraid of asking for critique. Most importantly I encourage you to keep discussion at a civil level, but you're more than welcome to share your opinions.

Looking for some critique here, what am I doing wrong?
Lately I've been trying to get into anime style after being a more western style artist for a long time, so I've been studying a few manga artists and grinding anime heads

Thanks, usually I don't fuck that up but eh. What do you mean precisely but constructing around the eyeballs? Usually I define the shape of the head then make the eyes then draw the rest based on those.
Great work btw.

Studying a lot of Hampton and Loomis, as well as actual anatomy books such as Anatomy for the Artist. I've also been fucking around with the idea of doing erotic art. Any thoughts or advise anyone would like to toss my way? Thanks in advance.

What's really interesting about character design is silhouettes end shapes.
I can't talk much about silhouettes because you'd need to draw the whole body for that, but your shapes are pretty monotonous, with 5 circle based characters. The bat and the demon can get away with it cause their ears/horns change their head's sillhouettes a lot, but the bottom 3 are a bit boring in that regard.
You could prove me wrong by giving them very different bodies tho.
Overall I really like the bat, he's main character material (not a fan of his colors but that depends on the tone of your story) and the tv, even if she's kind of a cliché, she's well made
The rest is good but it could use some work

your intuitive understanding of form is the real issue here. You aren't going to figure out how to lineweight unless you know exactly what kinds of forms your lines are describing. The wonkyness is most noticeable in the faces and the swords, but really it permeates the entire composition.

Art is taught methodically here. Some higher end stuff is abstract though, but that's just how it is. You basically just learn how to copy or draw well from Keys to drawing's tips. In the last pose, the left knee has a lot more of the fabric which crosses over from the inner leg to the outer leg but you only drew lines for the outer. There are also some interesting shapes on the bottom of the left leg that you didn't capture as well as the stacking in the first image. I think some of the lines are a little thick and it's difficult to actually tell whether the guy is wearing denim or sweatpants some of the time: the cuff of the right leg at the back doesn't fall onto the leg as it should. The stiffness in denim is much different between the pair in the first two images and the third image. Look at some Leyendecker illustrations for inspiration on shape design in clothing. His Marines illustrations won't be exactly what you want but just observe his work and think about the material he's illustrating. The biggest contrasts in value or color are where you're probably going to place an inked edge.

You still haven't noticed that the rifle isn't straight and it wouldn't actually function with the bore being bent so much that the chamber isn't even aligned. Scope is also basically unusable with how far from the cheek position it is, and there isn't even a rear sight. Hell, to be more of a dick, the scope isn't even mounted laterally centered according to what the ellipse is indicating, and the scope is also bent.

Do a quick design mockup of the rifle and look at real SMLE's with scopes on them.

Also I can already tell now but your value range will be too narrow in the final piece. Color's not what you need to be looking at: color is not bad IMO. It barely reads from the thumbnail, so it's more of a value issue.

You use Loomis to understand the principal concepts behind constructing the human form from abstracted shorthand. His work is a good introduction point, it's up to you to understand the concepts he's teaching, and understand them, then adapt them. Value range isn't a concern for me right now, background's still not figured out so the vast majority of colors here are midtones and I generally leave the strongest light for the last pass.

All i can advice is stick to finding your style. You don't have a definite tech(u)nique though your color theory seems fine at least.
The main problem is your lines aren't that smooth and I can feel too much sharpness on all edges. Try to use a smaller canvas and play with different kinds of material (like soften those flower petals).
You also need to learn to line weight. I know how but I won't tell it :^)

There is barely any comics or western art-style influence in this thread!!!!

I'll have to punish you all by posting great covers of series that inspire me

Today you will have a dose of the Street Fighter VS Darkstalkers comic series

I'm guessing he used a round brush set to opacity/density + a soft-edged brush + a blending brush to smooth out transitions.

As for the layer modes he used, it's hard to tell. He might be using overlay to darken the shadow area, or he could be painting directly with the shadow color, who knows.

You should probably invest in a UPS device, or make it a habit to version control your files, i.e. don't overwrite, just increment a number.

Very few software suites will allow you to read file that was forcefully interrupted during save. This isn't a limitation of Photoshop so much as it is file systems in general.
