Hey /ic/ checked the wiki but it seems to cater to people who want to get into drawing more so than anything else.

Basically I'm a pleb who doesn't know anything about art. However I travel a lot and love to visit art museums when I'm in New countries.

I'm able to tell that I like some paintings more that others but what I don't understand is why. Is there like a YouTube series or something that breaks down art for plebs like me?

Like why iconic artists are so renowned, technical aspects of it etc..

This so very much a casual interest so I'm not really looking for anything too advanced, just introductory.

Anybody who doesn't paint can only come up with bullshit to justify his taste. Lots of "iconic artists" are shit, their fame (and thus value) engineered by professors and art critic to launder money. This is especially true for contemporary artists, but honestly, quite a few of the old masters are also a sham. Others are only famous because "they were good for their time", like most of the pre-Renaissance ones. They're still shit compared to the actual masters (who lived mostly around the nineteen century). Enjoy your Simpson girl at the Louvre.
