I agree with this. I have to say, though, there's been a steady influx of shit tier artists on there for a while now. People who treat it like their scrapbook/DA/IG account basically. It's not hard to filter out, but if you go the "recent" tab it's just like deviantart. I hope the buildup of shitty artists don't scare the pros off and kill the site...

Yeah, not him but that is a common issue. It's frustrating the expectations people have when actually getting rep on various platforms. I was getting attention a few years ago. I definitely see what you're saying. I've fallen into a bad habit of over simplifying forms when drawing from imagination that it kinda flattens the whole face. Thanks for the heads up.

There's a reason so many people post layflat setups of their drawings/food/jewelry/etc., it's not because they're "just adding shit" it's because it's popular and gets you more engagement.

been in a really tough spot mentally the past few months. not drawing consistently, not branching out, etc...but i feel like i'm starting to come out of my shell and draw a bit more.

i really want to make it, and make something of myself. i want to take classes so i can learn animation somehow(as well as learn fundamentals and how to draw things besides people/characters) but i don't know where to start.
i'm just so glad to be drawing again.

Only thing I ever had was deviant art. Is twitter better? Been thinking about trying other places. Thing about DA that I dont like is people are quick to favorite but never give criticism or any type of feedback. Besides that just been using the place a dumpsite

Thank you my dude :) For 99% of my drawings I just use office copy paper. nice neutral white and very smooth. I think its more about the charcoal beeing used. the angry looking woman was done with a charcoal stick. pic related was done with a conté both on the same paper

uh one of my photos was at 500 (its at 800 now) when I had 220 followers which was whack to me. I think when I began my account the algorithm was super nice to me for my first 3-4 photos.

It's a combination of I had a small pool of photos to like so anytime someone sees my profile they like what is avaliable (theres more photos now so the likes are distributed more so it isn't as concentrated)

what's the best site to start an actual portfolio or what have you? I started to just make a custom folder in my DeviantArt but a friend told me that I'd probably get more business and overall respect if I had an actual website portfolio instead of literal beginner tier posting.

I'm looking at Wix but I'm not completely sold so far. Heard Square Space is good but it costs a monthly fee but I'm kind of struggling financially so I'm ruling it out.
