just tipped over 4k followers on tumblr and out of no-where im getting commissions.
from no commissions ever, to like 3 in one week, enough to hit rent for the first time.
is 4k the magic number?
im not gonna post my tumblr because this is not about me, i wanna know if anyone else has experienced this, is this whats over the wall or is this just a "when i rains it pours moment"?

does tumblr boost your reach once you get to 4k or something, because it really feels like that.

Could be. Something I learned is that there is definitely "magic number / be this tall to ride" thing with art and success. Once you pass a certain line, you go from nothing to everything. No jobs, to several jobs at once.

where do you live where 3 comissions a week is enough to pay rent? if i could make 2k a month here in toronto i could barely afford rent and food. and art supplies and literally anything besides basic necessities would be out of the question.

i've seen this so much today I can't tell if it's a copypasta or if you're just spamming it but it's bad. it's straight up bad and unappealing to look at. the structure of the face is utterly fucked, the hair makes no sense, the eyes suck, the mouth is literally a scribble. you didn't even try to render the ear. the only not garbage part is the shading on the neck but the neck is so long and skinny that even that part is fucked. stop spamming this shit piece and start doing fundamental studies.

No. The only social media I was on before then was DA and my stuff would cap out at like 200 views. Total. My pageview count only hit about 15k. It took a few years for me to start getting regular commissions once I started on tumblr but I started getting them sporadically pretty quickly. I think the key to it was doing fanart.
