What's the point of getting good if untalented people with connections will always have priority in the industry?

aren't those big conventions first come, first go? whoever finishes their application first gets in, the rest are waitlisted incase some are dropped off.

Because you're prioritizing fame.
You don't deserve art.

No, it's a jury system, meaning a panel of jurors decide who gets in.
I am probably right in assuming they pass all their notalent friends before anyone else gets a chance.

>>3295749
I saw speculation of there being a skill tier with slots, instead of pitting a noobie's art against someone with more experience and skill. But that doesn't mean jurors aren't passing their friends through, though.

For artists to succeed, Talent:Effort:Luck = 1:2:7
And Luck means 90% connection. That's the only thing the more you try, the more you can get.

It's actually damn near impossible to make meaningful connections if you don't have any competence and skill in your field. If you have nothing to offer, you are regarded as a parasite by the people you try to network with. Networking works best when both parties can offer each other mutual benefits. You want to befriend the guy who you think has the potential to some day hook you up with a job, or the guy who some day can plug your kickstarter to his audience of thousands of followers etc and you will do the same in return. No one wants to "network" with the guy who only asks for favors but can never return them.

>me me me
>I-I would totally do the same in return i-if I wasn't busy atm

And that's why you'll never get it, selfishness reeks from a mile away. Especially obvious to those who already have a decent following and net value, they've already dealt with countless thoths, no matter how you structure your message, you're easy to read.

bad example. those fuckers on the left probably don't actually have connections. often cons will turn away better artists because they want their AA space to have something for everyone to buy. they need a certain amount of print artists, or artists who do original stuff, or artists without merch, or whatever other quota exists. or they want to give young local artists a break

my college painting instructor was in his early 20s when he met the New Avant Garde artists in New York City during the 1960s. He also wanted to break in the scene and did work at their level for a college art student. Problem was that the major gallery owners and curators drooled and took you seriously ONLY if major buyers know you. If not they don't even bother. This still goes on today.

so in order to get priority or get in their good side, one had to do "favors" for these gallery owners, and not the monetary bribe kind but sexual.

this not only happened in NYC but in other major US city that embraced the new wave of Conceptual Art that started in NY. He ended up using his art degree for an advertisement agency before finishing his MFA and eventually taught art. Trying to get your artwork into museums nowadays is pointless now that one can use online art sites as well as social media.
