IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Not sure if this is the right thread for such shit but whatever. I used to draw a lot when I was a kid and people said I was good at it. Then as I was growing up my drawings were getting better but I was drawing less and less. I think my best years in terms of quality/quantity were 13-14 when I was drawing sexy anime girls. Now I'm 20yo, I know a lot about anatomy and stuff, can easily see and correct mistakes in other people's works but I can't draw shit myself. It's just so fucking hard and not fun at all. Oh, and I can't just let it go as I'm still interested in art and most of my friends are artists and I kinda want to draw too but I can't. What should I do, anon?

I now skipped through "Perspective Made Easy" by Ernest R. Norling from the sticky. On page 103 he says in a room every roatet object has his own vanish point on the eye level. Is this what i'm looking for?

Any other source for this, exercises etc? In an archieved thread there was talk about "draw a box" but some said its shit"?

Trying out some still lifes. Set them up in a black box with one light source, and painted with gouache.
Tricky to prevent things from turning out a bit wonky, even with detailed sketches since they’re lost under the paint pretty quickly, but that’s probably just a matter of practice and attentiveness.

I can tell by looking something is wrong with your figure drawing technique, you should draw the line of action, being the spine up to where in meets the skull and to the tailbone, put in a line for the pelvis, and put down lines for the legs where the bones would be, but CURVE THEM how they feel they are moving, then put indicators for the hands, draw the torso section, and then put a head, be sure to check proportions, and draw in something to tell where they are, like a cast shadow or like in the first image the thing they're sitting on, just so there isn't just an object floating in space.

>occasionally doodle at work (cashier)

I want to git gud at drawing people and people-like things, but obviously I can't do the usual things of copying an existing art or even looking up a reference (closest I can do is look one up during break, then try my damndest to remember as much of it as I possibly can).
Which would you guys say is my best option here?
>try to pick up the skeleton-composition thing I've seen some artists use as their step one. Focus on proportions and poses, not what limbs, heads, bodies, etc actually look like fleshed-out
>don't draw until after work to avoid developing bad habits

Either wait until you're at home, or sketch things (people or objects) in your immediate surroundings. There are a million things that will help you improve your art beyond drawing human figures.
Pick a simple, mundane object and draw it. Change it's position and draw it again. Try rotating it in your minds eye and drawing that. Practice drawing boxes and other basic forms in various perspectives. Practice freehand ellipses. Practice lines.
There are a million things you can do, but drawing something as complex as a human being from memory for 30 seconds as a time as a beginner isn't one of them.

Complete idiot here, I don't know how to fill in "skeletons" nor do I know the correct one to use when drawing (especially the more dynamic poses that can make things complicated). Right now this is my current attempt, going by what little I know and what I've done before.

Simplified skeletons are useful only after you actually know the skeletal structure and you use them to simplify it. It's something you do after learning the basics of figure drawing, which are gesture, big volumes and only after this anatomy.

I think you would benefit from learning gesture more than anything because of the stiffness of your poses. Try proko's course on YouTube, Micheal Hampton or vilppu. All their approaches are valid and similar.

>> No.3288040

>>3288037
Interesting, I felt like I'm doing something wrong with my approach but I can't pinpoint it out. And yeah, the stiffness is a direct consequence of sheer inexperience. Everything is hard when you're doing it for the first time...or the first hundred times.

I'll check those out, thank you for the recommendation.

You are not reading properly the angles of the face and the features. If your aim is likeness and understanding the form, you should do the effort to learn to estimate angles. That frees you up a lot once you have interiorized it because you'll understand that likeness is bound to just an handful of planes you have to draw accurately.

Just a query more than anything.
I can't draw, but learning.
I can just about draw to a degree where people will recognise what I'm attempting to draw, although I kinda don't have too much line confidence, I tend to go over the same line with pencil again a few times.

That being said, I got a tablet, cheap wacom piece of shit. I'm relying far too much on the stabiliser tool, this tablet hasn't got a screen and it's somewhat infuriating trying to hit the same line.

Question is this, how do I get my tablet to act more like a pencil, or teach myself to not use the stabiliser as much.

Not the best related image but I'm too embarassed to show an actual attempt at a drawing. Have some perspective practice.

this redline is objectively worse than the original drawing you're trying to redline

to make things worse the angle of the camera is different, the angle of the pose is different, and even the angle of the beam with respect to the body is different.

you took a potentially interesting although misdrawn slightly tilted top-down view and turned it into some boring flat 3/4 view

Here's a quick tip: before you start mapping colour patterns on the dog, lay down your construction. Work out the shapes in the body, pinpoint in the hip, stifle, hock joints in the back leg and the shoulder, elbow, and wrist in the foreleg. Work out the shape of the shoulder, and the ribs.

The entire dog can be broken down into simpler shapes. Circles/ovals, triangles. You just have to look for them and work them out.

Once you've got all of them sorted and sketched lightly, go in and put in your details, but do your construction first, just like you would on a human model.

I really like what you have started there, I don't draw digitally super often but when I do I find it easier to use the same brush but change the settings rather than using different brushes. Using different brushes at the end can help add some different interesting textures but its easy to get lost in them while you're still learning the program. Just did this.
Feel free to let me know what you think & also what kind of "tools" i should invest in.
I want to get into "realistic" drawing and i just have a bunch of pencils and a 50e gift card at an art shop.

javascript:quote('3288984'); If you want the lightpoles to be aligned, try to draw a line going from the first one to the vanishing point. It works for everything. Also it's better to try it with a ruler and a pencil at first.

flip your canvas and don't be ashamed to do it often. you'll notice that the head is lopsided. pro-tip, when you're working on the underlying sketch, draw a quick line down where for the center of the face so it can give you a general idea to keep the features balanced.

also, i'd suggest pushing your values/contrast. your shadows (in the clothing and hair, for example) are EXTREMELY subtle, i could barely tell they were there. Pick a direction for your light source and lay down your shadows.

I'd recommend pushing yourself to have neater lines, there are partes (especially on the right half of the tree) where your lines are rough and don't give us a lot of information other than "more bark"

A light source would help the tree look more dimensional as well, right now you just have diffuse lighting which is less descriptive.

I know you guys are probably tired of questions like this, but what is the most optimal way to learn? What materials should i use and in what order should i study them? I've always wanted to start but i never felt i had a good direction so i never did, since lots of anons here have different opinions on the subject.

Not too keen on the blurry red stuff going on in the fire, but the dragon itself looks very good now.

wash your headphone pads dude

they soak up oils over time and if you own a half decent set of pads/headphones they should be removable.

My pads got fucking nasty as fuck before washing.

I was making this for a draw-thread request and I am really having trouble with it. Just before I go to clean up the line-art, I begin redrawing the problem areas and it's really bugging me. Any tips or suggestions, I can't seem to move fast enough or even to the next stage of finishing the image without changing something or noticing some glaring mistakes right before I move onto the next process. I assume that I need to study more on figures and gestures. Though I am just fried from working on this, but I would like to at least finish it hopefully.

my first attempt at colouring my sketch. its so fucking difficult on tablet. spent half an hour switching brushes, changing opacity, brushing, lighting etc. and still shit. all those youtube videos, those artist spent 90% of time talking about drawing this or that then they drop some paint at the end and in second they have life like skin with creases and shade etc. no fucking explanation to this magic. i will never get it.
