Yeah most people don't have grease pencils anymore though dry/wet erase markers would do just as well. That isn't really an exercise though, it's just mentioned to help you understand a concept.

Alternatives? joseph d'amelio's perspective drawing handbook is pretty good but not as beginner friendly (Perspective Made Easy really is as simple as it gets). If you want example pictures "Basic Perspective Drawing" by John Montague is basically all pictures with very little text, but they're not scanned anywhere to my knowledge and my own edition is 2 generations outdated.

Also pic related.

And don't forget that perspective, like anything in art, takes practice. Just because you know the "rules" doesn't mean you'll be able to use them or bend them without a lot of artistic experience.

Would anyone be interested in the plates to copy from the Russian academy? I have a bunch of the Chinese ones and they have very little text - just a TOC and the rest are plates. Some are a 2 page spread.

There's also a full blown book on head drawing from one of their previous students I believe.

I've been on a quest to figure out exactly how they recommend to copy these to get the most of what they teach out of them.

Their videos on YouTube and VK are confusing. They have students copying the skeleton as a separate study but in practice I haven't seen a video where they have skeleton and rendered drawing side by side. Usually it's a small demo in the corner that the instructor does for them.

Also their academic system has also somewhat suffered over the last century. Teachers like Mogilevtsev are far and few. They have a few hardcore realists/constructionists. I think one of their senior instructors Nikolai Blokhin gets posted on /ic/ - he's the rare exception from what I can tell. The rest are impressionist and abstract sort of feel and the students don't like them either. So these handful of geezers may be all they have left out of ~80 teachers.

Just speculating maybe someone who knows more can set me straight.

Yes i checked, it's the same. Nothing is missing.
On my computer (mac) it is 21.46 on MEGA it gets compressed somehow. I also see that this happens with pdf's they all get smaller on Mega. You will see when you have downloaded the whole bunch to your computer it will have that size.

Right-click, view source, navigate to iframe or whatever, look for <video> tag and grab the src attribute, it should be a link to an .mp4 video or whatever.

Open it in your browser as a separate tab, right-click and Save As.

I can hardly find any good books on the subject in English, so I tried searching around on Japanese Amazon using google translate. Looking for books in Japanese is annoying. There are no real previews of the books I'm interested in to see if it's good or not.

It's a bit nebulous.

You've got pop psychology books like The Design of Everyday Things that can give you hints to product design.

You've got The Elements of Typographic Style for typography, text layouts.

You've got grid systems, books on composition/notan, et cetera for general layout and whatnot.

There are books for each kind of industry and design of its products. But these are case studies and full of fluff.

I think good design and taste are intertwined and the only way to acquire it is to expose yourself to lots of shit problems and come up with ways to solve them. And look at how other designers solved them. And grind through the shit work over and over and make many iterations of what you're working on.

But what the fuck do I know I'm on /ic/!
