Whats the point in knowing perfect anatomy if only a very specific subgroup of people (/ic/) can actually spot these errors when the general mass of normies cant?

Im not justifying drawing like chris chan, but at the same time, no ones going to notice a muscle being off by a few inches.

Just because they can't find the specific errors doesn't mean they can't find it appealing or not.

You know that little voice in the back of your mind reminding you that it looks like shit? Listen to it.

The point is not if other people can tell if the anatomy is good or not.

The point is that guess work kills the soul and destroys motivation.

When you're just frustrated, looking at the canvas and not knowing what or how to draw something, that will destroy your momentum.

Knowing anatomy is just so that you don't hesitate and feel insecure when drawing. The muscles and bones never change, it doesn't makes sense not to memorize them.

Drawing without knowing anatomy is like writing without memorizing the alphabet first.

No one on /ic/ is advocating perfect anatomy as that is a waste of time and rarely do people point out irrelevant errors like a muscle being off by a few inches. Most anatomy problems that are pointed out are larger issues such as impossibly bent spines, misaligned facial features, fucked up proportions etc. And non-artists can spot those things pretty reliably too. Just lurk /co/ or /a/ for a while to see just how badly shit art gets trashed on there.

You should only strive for perfect anatomy if that is what you want in your artwork. At the point where your artwork has no major anatomical flaws appeal will matter way more than technical perfection.

yeah you don't have to master anatomy before drawing stuff you like

but you should develop your knowledge and craft your whole life as an artist

Perfection is objective, and is a meme here. Perfect anatomy doesn't exist. Even Michelangelo distorted body proportions in his sculpture, to make them look a specific way. Comic art for decades put lumps where no human had muscles.

There's this thing called "artistic license". It gives you, the artist, license to decide when it's good enough for your own work. The audience's reaction is on them - they can either ignore it, go with it, or reject it.
Learning the basic muscle masses is enough, IMHO. You should have one lump for a bicep, for instance, not two or three. A thigh has a general size and shape.
If you want to do hyper-realistic, anatomically correct work, that's fine too.
Artistic license is what lets us take the ordinary, and make it interesting to look at - or to edit reality, like removing telephone poles and wires from a landscape, or moving a fence or rock to a place that's more pleasing to the eye. Art is not an iron hard regimen of perfection and accuracy, it's got a loose frame to hang your ideas on, and if a flower is less than accurate, who cares, if they're cool to look at. We're not cameras, after all. We're artists, and we're allowed a little slack for changes/style.
