I'm really worried for him, and yet I don't really know how to help him. It seems like something he's passionate about, but I highly doubt he will find success in it unless he flips his mindset. He's aware he's not the best but I don't think he understands just how far behind he is. What do, /ic/?

If he's passionate he'd likely want to get better. Start soft and just point out small flaws that he could do better with his art. A little redline here and there can help him start picking up good habits.

Ask him who his favorite artists and inspirations are and let him know you can help get him to be that level in a realistic way.

I suppose that's true. I just don't want to get him too discouraged, I guess, but I can see how small tips can help.

How long has he been drawing for? Most beginner tier stuff looks like it was done by 12 year olds.

Good idea. I'll be sure to bring that up.

I honestly don't know, but it's definitely at least several years even though his art doesn't exactly show that. He doesn't upload his stuff online and I don't really know how to ask without making it sound offensive.

It's possible to make it no matter how shit your art is.
