3238603 No.3238603 [Reply] [Original]

Dear commission artists:

Nobody is obligated to pay you to draw. If one wants to, I am happy for you. If you make a lot of money from your art, more power to you. But if someone asks for a free drawing, you have no right to complain. Just as you have every right to say no, they have every right to ask.

First of all, perhaps that individual does not know that you treat every request as a commission. Flawed logic on their part? Yes, but maybe you should consider that hobbies are hobbies and they may not see art the same way you do.

Get off your high horse. It’s nothing to complain about - art has never been a lucrative business, and this is the path you chose. Doing shit like making strawman comics on your social media about the evil requester who asks for a free thing and you politely declining them is not only extremely petty, but your responses towards said individuals tend to be extremely sugarcoated on your part.

Tl:dr tough luck.

but he is correct. Look i mean no offence but 99.99% of the people we all know and love who were animators or artist back in Newground, deviantart, tumblr and 4chan always interacted with people and created stuff for us. i remember when drawthreads first started and people would draw for us, but now they don't even come here anymore or give people the time of day. its like all the animators form Newgrounds who got famous and said fuck you( cough cough arin) and live of the fame we gave them.

If you ask a plumber to fix your toilet for free you'd expect them to complain about it and tell you "fuck no".

Artists have to make a living as well, free work wastes valuable time that they could be making money with their skills instead. You want stuff drawn so badly then go learn how to draw, you entitled little shit.

The block button exists for a reason. The internet is a tool that's taken the place of the antiquated asylum/padded room combo in sating mentally deranged retards and keeping them from being a danger to themselves and others; you have to keep in mind whenever you're talking to someone online they could EASILY either be straight up fucking nuts or even more likely just too stupid to waste time on. The second someone even hints that they're going to have a bad attitude to me they're fuckin' gone.

The last thing you want to do when you're talking on social media is automatically anthropomorphize the subhumans before they've proven that they're something more.

Wrong, people talk you into doing them a favor and shit. If you don't comply you're an asshole to them and if you tell them to pay you for it you're the asshole too. It's best to just be strict anyway. In the end I would likely draw a lot of stuff for free, it's practice after all, it's just when people expect you to do them a favour and then think you should be happy they even asked you to do it, while both of you know they're full of shit.

Which is retarded cause when you think about it they're working their ass off for $10 when they could be doing it the smart way and calculating their hourly wages into a price per project.

I also wouldn't offer my services because I am not yet at a point where I would feel comfortable doing that. But hypothetically speaking 7 bucks per pop is a fucking joke, even if you suck ass, if someone wants to pay that, then he is straight up ripping you off because that's less than you'd make in half an hour at a fast food joint nowadays, which doesn't require shit.

If you don't follow the original design and go off on your own ideas; you can't throw a fit when the consumer isn't happy.
