Basically this. I earn money making illustrations and I do it all by destroying my trust worthy 300 dpi mouse, I out skill everyone that I know that has one.

Tablets don't make you good, constaly drawing and experimenting does.

at least in my case, I draw a lot with pencils in paper, and the graphic tablet give me a close sensation to the use of a pencil, not the same but close.
draw with a mouse is like other world for me.

I’ve seem amputees draw with their feet. If you don’t have a choice, sure spend a long time learning how to do something the hard way. But if you have a choice you might as well use the best tool you have access to.

I'm one of the top concept artists in the video games industry and I make all my stuff with MS paint and voice commands. It's not the mouse, keyboard, or xbox controller that makes you a good artist, it's the attitude.
If you tell yourself "hell yeah I can make top-notch art in MS paint with voice commands" and truly believe it, you'll soon realize you're working for Valve and drawing concept art from the comfort of your couch without moving a limb.

I am one of the highest earning artists in concept art for vidya and Christoph Nolan and J. J. Abraham movies. I work with my wheelchair joystick, voice commands, nose and sometimes the left corner of my mouth in conjunction with my anus ring muscle alone. My favorite program to draw is Turbo Pascal in DOS. Just last year, I have realized about 80 feature films including works with Steve Spielberg and Jimmy Cameron.

If you tell yourself "the hell, I can do great things with Turbo PASCAL! Notice me senpai!" you can achieve anything. I have to be going now, the nurse is here.
