This thread is for artists who love the feel of laying pencils and ink on a page or chalk and paint on a canvas.

Post your current trad drawings and get feedback in this thread. Anything goes with one simple rule: no digital.

Love pen and ink myself. Currently teaching myself the strengths and weakness of technical pens, dip pens, and brush are.

Last I checked the sketchbook thread still exists. It's mainly the trad art thread.

that's some pretty dumb logic.
If you can read, you'll notice that the header is "Traditional Art Thread" But i've just been posting because nobody else will and i dont want the thread to die because i think it has potential

Why don't you post some of your traditional art?

charcoal
post-it paper

I do a lot of drawing in charcoal alone, but I also like it for backgrounds and shading with cartoon sketches.

The entire face is translated slightly to the left of the head. What happened? she appears to be with head pointed to her downward right position and it's like someone drew the entire face crooked.
Anyway pic related. The problem isn't drawing the hands it's going to be rendering them under This light using vine charcoal. I can't use compressed because my chamois and erasers are too worn to remove lines.

>> No.3225818

That's because i drew the face crooked.
You can't bunch up some paper towels or something? I feel like trying to render that with vine is just going to frustrate you and not come out as well

Nah it's possible. I've done it before. I have some left over paper pencils, was wondering if anyone had shading tips who are experienced with this. Pic related. Besides batching about something makes me feel better. I love drawing hands.

Hey /ic/, I draw to relax and relieve stress from my work. Don't really have the time or skill at the moment to be drawing from life, so I draw from photos of stuff that appeals to me (people). How do I improve when my eyes are no longer good enough to tell me what's wrong with my drawings?

>>3226618
Pastels, huh? Your work looks damn great, it's what I aspire to reach in the future. Would love to how you deal with motion and dynamic poses. I'm a big fan of those lines, do you ever work in full color?

>>3226569
I'd say you take a look at a picture of grass and try and see what colors grass ranges from and use that as your palette (its a lot more than you have in your pic.) Then just render that in clumps similar to how grass actually is. But you have a stylistic thing going here, don't know if you want to mess with that.

And pastel with a bit more color. Generally I do the pastels with just a few splashes of color bc it’s more fun and I do all the rendering stuff when I work digitally and thank you!!!!

>How do I improve when my eyes are no longer good enough to tell me what's wrong with my drawings?

Some ideas:

- overlay copy with original photo to see where you measured wrong
- pick up a video or book course and learn something new
- try to reproduce photos with only looking at them once
- try to reproduce photos without looking at your drawing
- try to really push the gesture
- try to really push the values
- etc.

In short, keep looking, learning and be open to experiment.
