drawing should be done while looking at your model, every beginner looks at the paper and then they just draw what they think is right instead of seeing whats right, naturally as you get better you start to build line confidence and only need a quick glance to put down a good line. With a pad you are having the drawing in front of you all the time and if you dont just draw from your imagination you should also be looking at the reference/model

I bought a 14" All in One P40 Thinkpad Laptop with a digitizer using Wacom tech (2048ps), a dedicated graphics card, and pen that recharges in it's integrated silo.

Yes it costs alot. 1200 USD I think. I use it for both work and art. I don't regret buying it but it has it's issues.

>> No.3215852

You get used to it anon. I had a Bamboo for years, was awkward and hard at first but give it a week or two of continuous practice. I got better at both direct and indirect drawing from it. Hand eye coordination is important and will eventually make it easier when you use references.

I am now with a screen tablet laptop but I honestly miss the clarity of using my Bamboo sometimes.

The problems with having an AIO is the same with the cintiq companions, that the hardware will get outdated and not easily replaced as a desktop.

There are many people out there still using their old cintiqs 21ux which was released in 2005! I have a cintiq and a Dynabook Kira L93 but I can't honestly say that one is without a doubt superior than the other as both devices serve different intents and purposes.

I paid £750 for both of the wacom tablets I had.
Intuos 5 A3 sized for £250 - used for 3 years before upgraded.
Cintiq 13HD for £550 - have had since October 2014 and still works like a dream.

I love my cintiq 21ux but here are some things to be wary.

It is getting old and it uses a DVI connection so you'll need to get another converter for current setups. While still being supported by wacom, I can see support ending for it in 2020.

2nd hand replacement such as stylus may be hard to acquire. In japan shop assistants at was all like "oh you still use a 21ux, you still use an intuos 3? wow!" ... made me feel really old.

I would recommend the 21ux just due to its size but don't expect to have a similar lifespan.

>> No.3216828

>>3216787
1st or 2nd gen? I have 2nd gen 21ux and love it. I believe the gen 1 model is good either way but if you can find the 2nd gen at a good price go for it.

Also what >>3216819 said. I shelled out $40 for a converter on Jewcoms website because I wasn't so trusting in amazon's converters despite it being cheaper? And make damn sure you keep hold of your stylus. My mom almost made me throw out my stylus because she mistook it for a regular pen. Bitches are hard to replace.

Something to be wary of. Like telling someone be careful the coffees hot, not an issue. Think of it as the batteries not included warning on new toys you purchase.

Cords are usually male to male. The cintiq's cords are inbuilt so you need a male hdmi to female dvi adapter. And not just any adapter. Most of mine didn't work as the female needed to be dvi-d.

No kidding, I got myself a Ugee 2150 one month ago at 400€, to replace my old Intuous 5. It's pretty good. Got some quirks here and there, but nothing you could not get over. Definitely happy on saving those 1200€ difference between this and a Wacom of the same size.

Before finding out about the Ugee2150, I got myself a used Cintiq 13HD off ebay for 300-something €, but was not quite satisfied with its small size, so I resold and switched it out with the UG
