3197444 No.3197444 [Reply] [Original]

Hey everyone, I'm looking to improve on my stylization/cartooning/comic-style drawing skills.

I'm looking for some good resources, but an inspiration dump is okay too. I'll start with some moebius stuff, but i'm interested in more stylized stuff too.

who is this? This is the style holy shit. This is the style I want to emulate. The lines, the tasteful hatching and textures and the subdued color palette.

It's Hermann Huppen. I love it too, but wouldn't even know where to start to get to this level. I can only assume it's watercolours but not too sure how you achieve the texture

I see this style everywhere in historical european comics, and some more. Wouldn't remember the names, but there was always at least one of them running in spirou magazine when I was reading it, 2000s. OP should be able to find suffisant quantity of info.

You should look into Kamome Shirahama's comic, I discovered it here on /ic/ and I've been in love since.

there isn't really any instructional material on ligne claire, you just try to do it by hatching around the volumes of things to suggest texture and avoiding crosshatching, spotted blacks and so on.

I'm sorry, but this is kinda bullshit. Yes, using shapes to convey feelings works to some extent, but saying that circle+triangle = fast and whatnot is just utter nonsense.

Moebius is an amazing place to start, especially for creativity. Studying the line art of Moebius is something i'd suggest to any artist.

Carter Goodrich has a nice style. I really like the texture in his work. He uses colored pencil over watercolor.

Love Carter's work, is there any more info on his materials and technique?

As a stickler for traditional mediums myself this really warms my heart.
