I'm tied between Corben and Moebuis. And Corben drew Mignola's character better than he could. Not trying to knock his style. I liked it, but it gets stale quickly.

I found Heavy Metal Magazine around '79 (I'm old), so I grew up with that, instead of Marvel and DC. I always thought comic books were boring and for kiddies after Heavy Metal (this was before the really good artists started working). So I grew up on Mobius, Juan Gimenez, Richard Corben, Guido Crepax, etc.

his flat sharply lit graphic style only allows him to draw "horror noir" it's very pretty but not versatile. Corben, on the other hand, though his work is instantly recognizable is so versatile he was able to mimic Mignola's lighting and still keep the chunky, rounded forms of his style. Make a point, explain your position. You'll come to a better understanding of why you think that way you do. It's so easy to be glib.

Giminez was mentioned, he's another great old one

Yeah I used to be big into Mignola but his current work is almost like a caricature of himself. I'm all for artists paring their work down to its core, but Mignola's forms were already so intentionally flat and exaggerated, now nothing has volume or depth to it.

Also his covers as of late suck ass, there's only so many times you can repeat that same stiff 'obscured figure surrounded by important plot elements' montage before it gets old. None of his decisions seem terribly considered

For example, compare this original Aliens: Salvation cover he did back in 1993...

...to this cover he did for the reprint earlier this year. The xeno has has next to no presence and is drowned out by all the clutter around it, and the protagonist is some amorphous androgynous blob of a figure. The character in the story is a resolute, determined survivor and worthy opponent of the xeno, but nothing of that is illustrated in this

If manga were applicable, I'd droll on and on about Yusuke Murata again. But I'll go with a comic book artist this time and say Jeffrey Cruz. His stylized stuff is kind of ass, especially with his inktober stuff if I'm being honest, but when he sticks to the source, his stuff is fucking great. The pic on the right is what got me reading Street Fighter after I found this dude on DeviantArt. I like Long Vo more but Vo is more of a concept and poster artist.

I'm with you there. I know it kind of contradicts my first statement, but I do like his stylized stuff, as long as it's his original work. I'd definitely buy his comic if they sold it at my local shop. But like his faces on women especially. All the mouths look like Princess Peach with lip injections. Also most of the noses on his Dragon Ball characters look like they have really flat, straight bridges which has never been the case for any Dragon Ball character which irks me a little.

indeed. There are a few ways you could repair this; one is by moving the closer leg closer to us even closer, like on the top of the wall above the black haired girl, making like this the dragon bigger and showing the further front leg could go that far back, but that would mean redrawing almost completely the dragon and loosing some part of his body by the top end of the panel. It would make him more big, menacing and mysterious (because we can't see it all) but maybe the artist wanted to show the whole dragon with this one

another one would be to do the opposite and redraw the further frontal leg closer, like over that gate, but that would fuck up his posture

and the last solution which I can think of and is the simples too is pic related
