Proko actually said:

>don't do as I did, don't wait 10 years until you start drawing from imagination

The thing is that he is just autistic, has no imagination, creativity or sense of humor. Doesn't mean fundamentals are not helpful. Have you read his dog comic? It's fucking autistic and it's based of his stupid dog. It's the least imaginative thing I've ever seen.

Being able to play complex songs on a guitar doesn't mean you know how to write good songs.

If you wanna be better at WRITING comics, then write more. If you wanna be better at creating art, then create more. It's pretty damn simple.

Just gonna come out and say I've never used proko as a teaching tool.

Just Hampton, Vilpuu, and lots of perspective with Robertson.

Granted I did do a year of art school.

My anatomy is not the greatest, but it gets the job done for now. Art is a lifelong journey, so long as you get to a competent enough level, you can start making money off this which gives you more time to keep improving and polishing your stuff.

The only creatures you can draw accurately purely from imagination are imaginary ones. If you want to accurately draw something real, you need to have seen it. If you don’t have photographic memory, and the thing in question isn’t something you’re familiar with from everyday living, you will need a reminder. I don’t understand what you get from pretending otherwise.

I don't know if you know this or not, but there's this little thing called construction where you break down objects into their most basic elements so you only have to remember a few things at a time and then you can systematically reconstruct them into their original, complex form without needing to memorize how that thing looks perfectly from every conceivable angle.

Disagree with that. At least he was able to reach a masterful level at something and able to produce/teach appealing work. Now all he has to do is start drawing from imagination a lot, like all beginners, but he has masterful observational/fundamental skills to help him.

If you know Mark Carder's YT channel, he's a realist painter who paints pretty damn amazing still lifes, but his stuff from imagination is shit. Like /beg/ tier, pure shit. Muddy colors, shit drawing, terrible perspective. It's just what happens when you learn to paint academically and all you can do is sight size.

Now what's particularly fishy about Proko is that what he teaches on his channel is a constructive method, which in theory should enable him to at least nail the basic shapes of imaginary things. But he shows none of that. It's as if he copied anatomical drawings 1:1 and made it look like he knows shit about construction.

You need construction for drawing from reference, it's not a must, but makes things a lot easier, especially for analyzing your reference, because a lot of the time you are unsure of what you are actually seeing in terms of anatomy and shape. It's also a necessity for good shape design.
Yeah, Proko and Carder aren't good at drawing from imagination, especially in comparison to artists who specialize in drawing from imagination, but that doesn't make them hacks. You are completely delusional.
