This. From observations and interviews of KJG, we can conclude 3 things if you want to make it:

KJG tries so desperately to be interesting. Other asian artists must find him insufferable because he draws like a western artist. That comic he's drawing in the video looks like utter trash. He's nowhere near the level of good anime art, he's a glorified western comic book artist, and even then there's western comic art and artists in the tradition that are far superior.

>> No.3159686

>>3159681
I wish he'd stop this dream of being a comic artist, because from what I've seen he's trash at actually making comics, and become a fine artist or something. Why not just do oil paintings? He'd be a decent fine artist, nothing revolutionary, but it would contribute more to art than his C-tier comics.

>> No.3159688

>>3159686
Brian, why do you always believe people should become fine artists?

>> No.3159698

>>3159688
cause illustration is trash and we don't need any more of it. Movies are trash, video games are trash, comics are trash, they're just distractions for idiots. Fine arts is truly good because it inspires critical thought and reflection. Illustration is simply an end point for fine arts, it's not the future, simply transitional between the next big wave of fine arts.

If you idiots would listen to me maybe you'd have a future in art, because all this entertainment art is going to dry up and your skills will be useless.

not true.

when i was 19 i painted this, when i wanted to be an illustrator, before i spent time thinking about if i actually valued the idea of working in "the industry". If I'd spent the past 5 years doing strictly illustration work I'd be a professional by now, but I just don't see any money in it in the future. It's not hard to predict where this all is headed, you guys are just too stupid to realize it.

>> No.3159838

>> No.3159839

>>3159835
and if you want to know "where it's headed" it's back to post-impressionism, and then back through art history again. Illustration is just the end point before we go backwards again, so I'm preparing for the inevitability of the world wanting new impressionists.

>> No.3159842

it's all going to collapse. It's already pretty evident in game development. The sizes of teams aren't keeping up with the advances in technology. It takes too make people to make new video games, and eventually it's going to collapse in on itself.

>> No.3159847

>>3159842
just look at where big budget movies are. The Avengers is a nightmare of a movie franchise. It's all over designed, big budget nonsense that only retards and pre-pubescent boys care about. They are throwing as much money as they can at making a return on these bigger and bigger investments. You aren't going to be the one to save it, it's already pretty much on it's last leg.

bumping with more "Brian can't illustrate" rebuttal

>> No.3159859

>>3159852
well actual illustration is already dead, there's like two artists working for The New Yorker that still make any money off it, I'm more talking about the larger market of concept art, 3d art, animation, comics and the like.

There's going to be a huge backlash against all that stuff when it finally fails to innovate on itself any longer, and society either moves away from invasive entertainment or it becomes more inert and easy to produce. The way we even consume media is so out-dated. You have to sit down and not do anything for 2-6 hours out of your day, and the lengths entertainment companies have to go to to even get that 2-6 hours out of you is becoming prohibitively expensive.

>> No.3159884

>>3159876
Fine art is just art for arts sake, it's almost hobbyists status but people don't seem to know that because art history is taught in a dumb way that doesn't connect to the present. There's Ooyari Ashito who paints giant paintings of anime it counts as fine art because it's not being used for anything, it's just made to be looked at, art for art's sake.

>The alternative was never hard for me, I just realized how worthless it is

now here's a true case of dunning-kruger. you really need to be honest with yourself. that painting was nowhere near professional level. at best it could get you into the art program at your local community college.

>> No.3160000

>>3159995
dunning kruger in relation to what? the sistine chapel? i gave up painting like that years ago, it's not like the competition is super stiff to be a concept artist. At some point though multiple people will have replied with "That's not that good" when
>I was 5 years younger
>You aren't any good but you're projecting your own dunning kruger onto me by saying "If I was good I'd do what you do better"
>You just want to argue

>> No.3160004

>>3160000
>>3159995
so why don't you post something better than what I'm posting, not to prove you're better, but to show that what I did is simply average community college tier. If everyone on /ic/ was doing stuff of the caliber of what I was doing in art school than maybe I'd reconsider that I'm any good. I don't think I'm any good, but evidence to prove that is few and far between. I'm simply good in relation to what else is being produced right now.

except you can't have dunning-kruger if you can objectively look at your work and see your own weak points, which is what I and anyone else who cares about making progress does. no projecting needed.

my skill level is irrelevant as i never declared myself better or worse than everyone here. so once again, nice try.
