>thought tracing/paintoveres were a meme
>tried it for the first time today
Oh my god it's so liberating, and saves so much fucking time. The base of my picture is great, the anatomy is right, the composition is already done, the end result is 10x better while taking half as long.

In the end, you can't even tell what original photo it was from since there are so many on the internet. I'm going to download a posing program and trace over those for poses I can't find.

>but ull be mediocre!
>no one will pay u!
>u'll lose ur fans if people find out!
Fake it till you make it, I'm still learning on the side. Are the people who demand you grind fundies the bucket crabs here?

>> No.3158833

if you enjoyed art enough tracing would disgust you. it's obvious to anyone with a trained eye if someone doesn't understand what you're drawing. you're right though, I don't find anything morally objectionable with tricking undiscerning people. it's just sad that you're so proud of it.

Yes, but not because tracing was superior to skill.

Just FYI, there doesn't exist a single good looking traced image/paintover done by an unskilled beginner. You suffer from Dunning Kruger Syndrome, so you can't tell just how cringy and bad your "art" looks, but everyone else can.

>Just FYI, there doesn't exist a single good looking traced image/paintover done by an unskilled beginner.
Isn't the same true for original work?

>> No.3159294

>>3159261
Well yes, which is why beginners have to study the fundamentals if they ever want to be able to produce good art.

All I'm saying is, your traces and paintovers look terrible to anyone other than you. So you might as well stop wasting your time with them and focus on learning not on the side but as your primary objective.

>> No.3159321

You might get away with concepts of anime tit girl on a white background but what will you ever do about composition, lighting, perspective, mood and story? Quite literally it takes a fraction of a second to just draw from refs than setting up a pose model.

Loomis said that drawing from pictures makes the people look stumpy and short because we're used to people with longer legs, arms, etc. in art

Loomis also lived in the early 1900s.

>then again one of my own consistent problems is legs that are a tad too short. I always correct it tho

/jp/ is where that "who are you quoting meme" originated from

you and I both know the greentext feature has multiple uses

>> No.3159480

>>3159462
The only use for 'greentext' is to borrow things while making it apparent they aren't from your imagination.
The original idea of quoting has been given some flexibility to rephrase things, and then extended to cover events and actions in addition to just text and speech. The original idea of borrowing from other sources remains and the extension covers all your 'other uses'.
If a thought is your own, don't place it in a quote. This is something you should've understood intuitively years ago.

3D is a multiplier. If you don't understand your fundies the art will look shittier, but if you know them it will make your art look better than anything you could possibly do traditionally.

I actually really like his new art, and I'm kind of considering buying the book he released a year ago when my local bookstore has one of their big sales.
