Does anyone respect you for being an artist? And I don't mean mom patting you on the back for shitty sketches, I mean real respect for real achievements.

It's funny you say that because the person who literally respects me the least for making art is my mom.

(continued) if you want respect from normies, then do realistic art like portraiture or draw animals and shit. Avoid nudes because people are gonna think you're a pervert. I had a friend of a friend who basically did just that and got a lot of respect from his normie friends calling him "talented" because he was able to copy photos and shit.

People respect art, not the artist. And they barely respect the art at that.

Why do you ask?

>> No.3153265

No, absolutely not.
I expected people would be even though I'm making money now people look at me like I'm an idiot when I tell them I'm an illustrator.
I think they think I'm crazy, a bum or just stupid.

I wouldn't say people respect me, except a few close friends and family, but people are generally pretty positive when I mention I draw or they come to me when I'm drawing in public. That's not often though. The point is, the artwork is more popular than I am.

Literally this. If you want normie respect, don't do fucking Loomis, just work on those rendering and life-drawing/photocopying skills.

>> No.3155427

Hell no. This shit turned me into a hermit. People just don't want anything to do with me and when I do talk with other people they laugh at me because drawing is for children and gays.

where I am I respect my peers for their work and they love my art. We are all gonna make it.

Pretty much this, normies only like the shitty kind of photorealism, even impressionistic realism is stretching it. I've seen normies sneer at Richard Schmid because "it looks all messy" but they'll worship YouTube faggots who made grid copies of M&M packages in colored pencils.

If you draw cartoony shit you're in the worst position since you'll be branded as a manchild, if you draw anthropomorphic animals even if it looks like you're a Disney wannabe you get weird looks, if you do figures or anatomy in general you get weird looks.

That's not even getting into the "real job" side of it.
