What motivates you to draw? Why would it be so important that you'd sink hours of your day into it, as opposed to other things?

1 it's fun and I enjoy it very much, 2 you always have something to do, you're never left wondering what you should do and because of this I'm very rarely bored and lastly it's the only job I can see myself enjoying, thus I try to improve

Needing to ask questions like this about any practice or task is a good sign that it's not made for you personally. Ultimately it all boils down to "just because," I enjoy it a lot and would like to improve at it so I put the time in to do it.

I don't draw that often. I do it from time to time, because I can only play badminton for so long until I have to leave the court and go home.

You're overthinking it, my dude
Just interested in seeing what motivates others, is all.

However I do have an issue with your response, in that it seems to be the type of thinking that could screw someone over if they're not lucky. To achieve meaningful goals you typically need to put some planning into things, so working sporadically on things 'just because' seems a bit aimless. I get what you mean, but sprinkling that kind of motivation with more forethought or a more widespread goal wouldn't hurt either, I think.

Like say you get into art because you really like to make paintings of tits. So you spend a couple years painting cute girls spending 90% of your time on the boobs. But then you start trying to find work in the industry, and while employers are very impressed with the chest area, they are forced to turn you down because you can do jack shit when it comes to everything else.

I guess if you just want to be a hobbyist it doesn't matter. But if you have some sort of end game in mind it might be worth it to think about why you're doing x and if it's a worthwhile use of your time.

Are you look for objective perspectives on why people create art generally? Here are some notes from J. Huzinga's book, 'The Play-Element in Culture'.

1. The Play-Element in Culture (find the PDF!)
2. The Aesthetic Realm of Art
3. The Game-Element in Civilization

Time to go the maldraw way ditch art and focus on science.

I dug too far to quit. If I can't get good at it it'll be working in a factory until I'm 40 then suicide.

The 2nd reason is I want to be popular.

The 3rd reason is I don't want to quit and have the people who wronged me get better than me, land a big gig and "make it". That would royally piss me off. It brings back memories of my younger years.

Looks interesting and cool, thanks anon. Was hoping these tackled the issue from an evolutionary perspective and it seems to be the case for the first book you listed, will have to give it a read sometime.

Nigga, shit's just starting. Technology is opening entire new avenues in art, take video games for example. Think of the shit that will be made when VR is already more developed than it currently is.

Virtual/augmented reality is to film as film was to paintings. So many possibilities, so many.

it's fun to create something.
playing games just feel empty to me, no real productivity, at least drawing will always add something into my portfolio.
Also comfy hobby

I don't care about that, I don't care enough about other people to want to help. The world is heading in a direction that I don't like, and it's the majority's fault. I can't change it and I would rather just draw since that is what I like to do.
