IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Well, I'm out guys. 4 months in and that's all I can give. Not going to name myself, I doubt anyone cares anyway.

Carpal tunnel has destroyed my life, and even practicing 2 hours a day is slowly killing my hands. I highly doubt surgery or anything else will permanently fix them and I cannot envision myself grinding 8 hours a day like I wanted to anymore.

Having my favorite thing to do and turning it into a career ripped from me because of bad genetics and luck. Fuck this gay earth.

>isn't carpal tun just a meme
No. If severe, carpal tunnel which doesn't improve with intramuscular steroid injections and other lifestyle changes is managed by surgery (surgical decompression of the carpal tunnel) according to UpToDate (which all of us students, practicing doctors and our tutors use.) Surgical treatment can also fail if the ligament isn't fully removed or if it grows back a bit.

Usually it resolves itself if you just wear a splint though. Most people just get splinted.

Carpal tunnel occurs because the tunnel through which the median nerve passes through to get to your hand is very narrow.

https://www.uptodate.com/contents/carpal-tunnel-syndrome-treatment-and-prognosis?source=search_result&search=carpal%20tunnel&selectedTitle=1~150#H684380739

Other than overuse, carpal tunnel syndrome can also occur due to a lot of other conditions too like hypothyroidism or pregnancy for example. And if you're kidneys aren't too good and you need dialysis then that can also be a cause. Or if you have acromegaly (if you have this condition it is very likely you know about it already) or diabetes . (Source the 2017 edition of USMLE Step 1 First Aid)

There's a lot of conditions that sound pretty insignificant but if you get them it can be a massive pain in the ass.

take that as feedback because it's pretty much true.

It's strange you have some sorta cool looking master studies on dA, and some nice pieces in your favorites. I think you get too lost in details, and that makes it hard for you to see the larger patterns and learn from them. You would probably improve more noticeably by painting in a smaller resolution for a while (e.g. 300 x 500) and with larger brushes. It will be a struggle, but that's exactly what you need. You need to understand what you're missing.

the curvature of his ellipses was looking wonky. so it's an attempt at offering a construction. vertical line is the center for each ellipse. red line around the silhouette is there to show that the vase has some roundness, which causes it to get darker. He drew it straight, which makes it weird to see a gradient going down. Ya need to think of what you're studying as a 3d shape if you want to draw your own original ones later.

Easy solution. Measure, measure, measure! Measure a lot with your pencil to make sure your lines are the right angle and going the right direction. Your brain sometimes interprets angle wrong, but with a pencil held horizontally or vertically, there's no mistake. Curves are very difficult to draw because pencil measuring doesn't work as well, so you instead have to compare measurements from other parts of the drawing. The best thing you can do is take your time and try your best to draw it how it looks. It's okay to mess up, you can always erase and do it again. It's okay to make a mess too, because one day you won't. Remember, if you try, you're likely to succeed.

its going to sound mundane but just draw like a mother fucker. get in a habit of drawing at least 25 sketches a day or do 5 paint studies. I am currently doing this challenge where I am drawing 500 arms, 500 legs, 250 hands, 250 feet, and 1000 heads within 100 days. I am currently 200 heads away from completing everything. This challenge is meant to create a habit of sketching everything even after the challenge is done.

Bottom line is, there is not shortcut, just grind it out, if you don't understand something, dont just continuously draw the same thing over and over again, try and observe and understand it and then draw it again, rinse and repeat.

hope that helps

Sketches can be whatever, like 25 figure gesture/figure drawings, 25 hands, 25 heads and so on, 25 is just bare minimum, if you want to level up faster, do more! I learned much from listening to a lot of Level Up videos, while I draw. Teaching me how to actually do studies and what not instead of just drawing a lot, this is very important.

As for painting, paint 60-90 minute stuff, like I spend an hour or so on each portrait shown above, I decided to paint that because I recently read a book about color and light. So it can be related to something you recently read about that you want to understand more. Try to observe other's work and try and understand what they did and why they did it and try to apply it to your studies.

>>3141014

I understand that feeling of drawing a lot and feeling like you are not getting anywhere. It seems to be the general advice given to beginners which should be reworded differently I feel. Yes draw a lot, but also try and observe what you are drawing before you dive into it. Draw a 5 heads, then take a look, what is throwing you off? What looks wrong? Eyes? Ok, now try see what you don't understand about it and research, have a reference book next to you, draw that eye over and over again and simplify it in shapes, break it down. This part doesn't have to be drawing a lot, this part is about observing and studying, then after you kind of understand it a bit more, draw a shit ton of it so you get it in your head.

attached a study by Krenz, where he wanted to study and learn about individual fingers then attaching it to the hand, very fascinating and inspiring.

it means having a dedication to certain attributes that you consider to be higher than your self.

for example someone might consider their own (or another's) individual unique personality traits to be of inherent value even if they havent (and might never) prove themselves to be able to create something of quality. this person lacks piety and is unvirtuous/will never succeed.

religion and divinity are inseparable from human thought, even most atheists are atheists after the sect of darwin, he is their priest. what is considered to be a higher trait by an individual is what they consider to be divine.

Too bright and contrasty values. You gotta ease into the values. Starting with a 4 and a 6 on the value scale for example to block in the light and shadow shapes. Then you can see where you have to go lighter or darker. Instead of constantly going to 1, then 8, then 2, then 5 etc. Put something down like 4 and 6, then adjust from there. Much easier.
