The top guy is a 3d animator or programmer who came up with a self learning way for 3d models of bodies to move. Basically since the computer doesn't know how humans are supposed to walk (or that the models are even humans) it made them move in really unnatural ways like weird rolling and bending of the joints and lurching. He said it could be a novel way of coming up with things like how a zombie might move. Miyazaki was obviously disgusted. I think the guy cried when his work was shit on.

You'd rather all animation/art look the same, without derivation, without success after all the failures? You have no concept of progress, no concept of experimentation and implementation. Those words don't exist in your brain. That you would place this repetitive human being on a pedestal rather than acknowledge his flaws is proof enough of your stagnation and incompetence. And thus, you'll never understand the joy of creating something from originality, coming up with something new and improving it, building it up, and seeing it grow. You simply don't deserve it.

May you go through life knowing that your achievements are nothing more than mediocrities of people far more gifted than you will ever be.

That's in his words. In "the kingdom of dreams and madness" he talks about movies and he sounds very bitter about the craft, like it's "after all, just a grand hobby" and other things like that.

I think his view of things is skewed in many ways, he's an old person after all... and honestly not even that mature - you wanna change the world with children's movies? Really? But I'm sure he had good reasons to develop those ideas.

Also he surely lost faith in 'traditional' animation which at this point it's happily on its way to become computerized... cartoons made in 3d with toon shading can look almost hand drawn at this point.

For example? The only one I can think of that did a somewhat decent job at it was that one Disney short. Other than that, every time a show uses this technology, it becomes a laughing stock due to how bad it looks, like Berserk or Kemono Friends most recently.

No one is adapting anything Miyazaki has done, yet everyone still uses design choices from Disney when it comes to stylization (not 100%, but majority of the influences is clearly there even in animu).

They definitively weren't average, the anime was incredibly dark to the point they had to redo entire episodes because of how fucked up it was, this is why Eva's quality is so shit in some episodes; It was truly written by a man in state of mysery

Shinki while its just another beta fag today at the time he was a interesting character because of his weaknesses and cowardice

Rei was meant to be the dehumanization and idealization of a woman, thats why the weebs loved her so much

Asuka was what a real women is supposed to be, full of emotions. Also the scene of her mindrape and the coma were very impactful

>the anime was incredibly dark
A super robot show from the 70s had the baddies turn civilians into human bombs to use against the protagonists. And the show ends with almost everyone dying, even most of the kid pilots, in a Pyrrhic victory. And part of the early premise is that the kids fight without even realizing that they're resented by the people they're protecting. Eva is hardly dark compared to some of its predecessors. Apocalypses are nothing new, killing of large parts of your cast is nothing new, and disturbing subject matters aren't really that new. It's very standard fare for mecha, and really just anime/manga in general. I guess you could argue that some of the psychology was disturbing, like Shinji jerking off onto Asuka, but it's just over the top.

>Shinki while its just another beta fag today at the time he was a interesting character because of his weaknesses and cowardice
You say that like he's the first reluctant hero. Even in mecha it's a trope from the 70s that probably got real popularity with Amuro, who's forced into being a pilot because everyone else is dead. His neurosis doesn't reach the point of Shinji's extreme mental breakdowns but it does reach a point where it's clear he's disturbed by it and struggling to grow out of it is part of his early character arc. Of course, if you watch Z and CCA he doesn't become a healthy adult.

>Rei was meant to be the dehumanization and idealization of a woman, thats why the weebs loved her so much
>Asuka was what a real women is supposed to be, full of emotions. Also the scene of her mindrape and the coma were very impactful
They basically contributed nothing other than kickstarting the waifu industry. Most of the interesting things that Eva has to offer is inherited because Eva's ultimately a derivative show with Anno's personal style. It's well executed but that doesn't mean it's groundbreaking.

I hardly think a few easter eggs is anything notable. Also, Avatar being inspired by Eva sounds like a hilarious joke. Did he ever explain what part of it inspired him? My personal opinion is that Avatar was a decent show, but typical of a kid's show chickened out on the dark stuff, whereas Eva didn't have a problem with it.

He misinterpreted everything Miyazaki said just to put him in a "old bitter man without reason" light
Either baiter or dense retard, either way don't feed him more attention

I love Miyazaki, but he IS bitter and I never said without a reason. There's plenty of shit going on right now, I can clearly see why he'd be disillusioned about animation.
