Why the fuck is drawing so fucking hard goddamn it? I've been trying to draw my shoes for 6 hours and it looks like utter shit. Fuck you Bert Dodson and your shit book

>> No.3073022

If you're unironically frustrated at this stage just stop. Art is not for you if this is your attitude. Go play a moba.

its all about figuring out how you learn, and what your strengths/weaknesses are. And then practice with a daily routine. art is hard work and you have to study it/practice it like any other skill. Gl my man

Just as any other craft you have to love the act of drawing first and not the end product.

>> No.3073035

Perfectionism is the killer of progress. A fuck load of "eh, not good but learned something" drawings is better than minimal amount of good or better. Just learn to deal with the frustration loop. Noticing that you're in the loop is good enough reason to stop the current drawing and start the next drawing.

i would start by looking into http://www.proko.com/how-to-draw-videos/

and just start from the basics chances are you haven't even spent 1 week drawing shapes and lines yet and if you can draw basic shapes like a circle right how are you going to know how types of lines and shapes make more complex ones

and once you have mastered shapes just study what ever you want Perspective/Horizons/figure drawing/animation ect

You sort of don't. It's great if you enjoy the process of drawing even if your drawings aren't even good, but for a lot of folks you just have to fight through the frustration by establishing a routine and learning how to gradually pinpoint your flaws.

try tracing a picture of fucking shoes first you fucking retard.

>> No.3073665

What kind of an unimaginative retard would draw his own shoes?
I'd be salty too if I had to draw my own shoes all day.

Also you better take them off before drawing them or you're going to have a cramp in your neck.

>If you're unironically frustrated at this stage just stop.

If you say you weren't unironically frustrated when you first started art (or since) you've either got the patience of a saint or you're full of shit, I venture it's the latter. Being a beginner at anything can be frustrating, especially something with feedback that so clearly demonstrates how bad you are at it and makes you feel like a child.

It took me months to start drawing anything I was remotely satisfied with. It was frustrating. Some days it remains frustrating. Being a good artist isn't about not getting frustrated, I've never in my life heard of an actually good artist who claims they've never had bad days. Being a good artist is about overcoming the frustration.

And if you've actually never once been frustrated at art I'd love to see your work, because you're probably either very skilled or don't give a shit about your craft.

Is this some kind of drawing exercise for convicts in solitary confinement?

The worst thing a beginner can do is to start with these mindnumbing excuses for an exercise.
He'd have more fun drawing cubes. And he'd probably learn more in the process.

>> No.3073967

>>3073019
Bruh you have to accept that your drawing will be shit. If you hold yourself back for fear of imperfection you'll never get it fucking done. The point of that exercise is building hand eye coordination, not drawing shoes. Even the example in the book looks like shit, because it doesn't matter what it looks like.

People don't understand this and it's so ridiculous. The vast majority of posters on this board literally don't have what's needed in one form or another to excel in art, but they keep smashing their heads against a brick wall and getting mad about it. If drawing brings you this level of anger constantly and you're showing no improvement after a long amount of time spent doing dedicated work, fucking try something else already

The "muh talent" meme. I bet you retards think that most people are just "naturally bad" at math and aren't just stuck with shitty education.

There is NOTHING stopping anyone from at the very least becoming competent in art. Not everyone can become a genius, but talent is the "muh fat genetics" of /ic/.

I wanted to be a rock star, and play guitar. I started learning when I was 15, and played every day. I studied everything I could get my hands on, I learned to play songs by ear, I learned music theory, I worked my butt off to get better gear.
But in the end, I had to admit, I wasn't very good. I couldnt express myself the way I wanted through a guitar, like I could on paper. So I embraced the fact that I'm an artist, not a guitarist. No matter how many scales I played, I wasn't gonna make it.

Once I embraced that, and went back to art full time - I started to enjoy playing the guitar. I don't care that I can't play like the pros - just playing was good enough, for a hobby.

Art may not be for you, no matter how much you want it. Not everyone can be an artist. You may never be a professional artist, but if you drop the expectations and dreams, you may find a way to enjoy it as a hobby.
